Frankie, a beautiful 5 month old medium haired tortoiseshell kitty was in recently for a new pet exam. She has only been in her new home for 1 week. Already, the other house kitty, Shoryu is warming up to her.
The bunnies will continue to stay in their own rabbit room, away from the 2 cats.
Frankie was a GREAT kitty for using food as a distraction during her visit.
Frankie ignored her vaccines and nail trim. She even ignored us obtaining a blood sample from a back leg!😺
This was a great opportunity for making Frankie's 1st visit be pleasant, tasty and fear free. Frankie LOVED the chicken and tuna flavored Churu. Yum!
We know who will be getting more tasty treats at her next visit!

Indy is a 29 year old male White Fronted Amazon. Indy came in recently for his yearly exam and grooming.
Besides some sharp nails, Indy's beak had become overgrown. A dremel is needed when grooming a parrot's nails or beak.
His Mom was pretty happy with Indy's beak and smooth nails after we finished.
Doesn't Indy look gorgeous? His feathers are so colorful and vibrant!

*CONSTRUCTION ALERT*
There is construction occurring on Frederick street beginning at Center street and extending past All Creatures 2 driveways. There is also construction at the intersection of 90th and Center streets.
Our clinic is still accessible taking 84th to Frederick, or any side street south of Center, that is also east of Hyvee.
At the moment, there is no access allowed from Center onto Frederick st. (by HyVee).

Jerry, a 23 month old pet rat was acquired as a very traumatized rescue at only 6 months old. He had become afraid of human hands after adults and children in his last family would grab him with force.
He was undersocialized and fearful. In the last 1.5 years, Jerry has come to trust his new mom. He will readily take food from her hands and lick her fingers. He also gently play nibbles her fingers.
He's never allowed his mom to place her hand over his back or pick him up.
For the first time ever, he sat quietly in his mom's hands during his exam. What an amazing milestone! These photos show Jerry's love and trust in the person who rescued him.♥️🐀

Luna, a 9 yr old cat, seemed perfectly healthy on exam and senior lab work except for her calcium. Over a period of months, her calcium went from slightly above normal to being elevated, and then it just kept climbing higher.

This sent us on a medical quest to find answers, while preventing permanent kidney damage from her rising calcium.

Luna is a strong willed kitty who benefited from an anti-anxiety medication before any vet visits when we needed to run more blood tests. Unfortunately, she needed this same medication at home, 2 hours before her family gave her fluids under the skin. 🙀 Luna has some wonderful pet parents who persisted with the testing and ultrasounds that finally led to an answer.

Luna had a rare tumor of her parathyroid gland in her throat, which caused her high calcium. Kansas State Vet School performed a sucessful surgery, then kept her for 3 days monitoring for seizures and other signs of very low calcium.

Luna never acted sick from her slow growing tumor. Now, Luna is ecstatic to be able to eat her regular dry cat food again! She never liked the canned prescription kidney diet. She is also very happy that her dad doesn't give her fluids twice weekly, anymore!😻

Meet Ziggy! Ziggy is a 4 month old Papillon. He is adorable and super smart! Look at those ears!
He was seen recently for his series of puppy vaccines and puppy visits. He was a social and outgoing pup, who didn't mind his vaccines at all!
Ziggy is already in training for agility and nose (scent) work. He is anxious to please and is very treat motivated! 🦴
His proud Mom noted that he is picking up new commands on the very 1st try!
Way to go Ziggy‼️

Baby is a 20 year old Umbrella cockatoo who came in for a new pet exam and nail trim. Baby is adjusting well to her new family. She had recently been inherited from a family member who passed away. Baby was very comfortable chewing holes in a towel while we dremeled her sharp nails. We always keep a supply of 'holey' towels for our favorite chewers!
Before acquiring a cockatoo as a pet, you need to make sure it fits your life style. Cockatoos are beautiful, playful, noisy and make great companions. However, as a breed, cockatoos can be very loud and very destructive. They love chewing wood and can destroy parrot sized toys in minutes. If unsupervised and out of their cage, they can also damage woodwork and furniture.
Baby's new home and family were well prepared for her arrival. We look forward to seeing Baby in the future and saving a special towel just for her!
