K9 officer Kano was seen recently at All Creatures as a follow up to a well publicized police incident. While apprehending a dangerous suspect, Kano was choked unconscious. The emergency staff at VCA Midwest took care of his critical needs that night.
When we saw Kano a few days later, his handler reported that he seemed fully recovered.

Kano's lab work indicated otherwise. He needed another week off work or only light training. As his handler explained, there is no such thing as light practice training. Kano would be too amped up.

The Belgian Malinois breed is a type of Belgian Shepherd. The Malinois is known for being very intelligent, highly athletic and super energetic.
They make excellent working dogs for the military and police. They were originally bred for protection and sheep herding.
Kano is dual trained for drug detection and apprehension. They do NOT make good couch potato pets!
After 2 weeks of inactivity, Kano and his handler finally got the green light to return Kano to full active duty. It was a relief for both of them!

Kano enjoyed spray cheese after being a good boy for his exam and blood draw.

Cricket, an 8 month old domestic shorthair cat and Dahlia, a 2 year old Pitbull mix are best friends! Some dog breeds including Pitbulls have a strong prey drive. This can make a home unsafe for other smaller pets including cats, bunnies or birds.

Dahlia has NO prey drive! She doesn't chase her 2 cat housemates & ignores Salsa, a small bird.

Cricket was looking for a playmate. She has found her forever friend in Dahlia!🐶🐈🙂

Look at this handsome boy! Butters is 13 years old! Watch him show off his balancing skills as he reaches for a moth hiding inside the lamp shade!
By age 7, all dogs and cats are considered senior pets.🐈🐩
At All Creatures we recommend twice yearly senior exams and senior blood work. Some senior pets lose mobility and suffer from arthritis. We can discuss options and medications to help.
Look at this athletic senior- such focus, such balance! Way to go, Butters!!! 😸❤️

Kiwi and Mango were seen recently for grooming (nail trims). Kiwi, on the left, is a 3 yr old Pineapple conure. Mango on the right, is an 8 yr old dilute Pienapple conure.
Kiwi follows her older friend everywhere. They have very different personalities! Mango is tame, well behaved, and listens to her Mom.
Kiwi is described as naughty and a trouble maker at home!
Both are strong fliers and spend most of their time outside their cage when they can be supervised.
Kiwi flew around the exam room several times before her nail trim. Kiwi demonstrated her strong flying skills AND lack of listening skills!
We recommend annual exams for pet birds.

Dahlia, an 18 month old Pitbull mix and recent amputee, came in for a new pet check up. She has an amazing personality and loves meeting new people!
She was rescued by Capitol Humane Society of Lincoln. They assumed she had been a HBC (hit by car) as she had severe open wounds and an old unhealed fracture. Capitol amputated her right front leg on April 2nd.
Only 5 weeks later, her new family fostered Dahlia for 3 days before adopting her. Dahlia gets along with their other pets.
With trauma in her past, one would expect her to be suspicious of strangers. You would also assume she'd have trouble getting around 3 legged. Nope!! Only 2 months after her leg amputation and she has incredible balance and agility!
Dahlia's sweet personality reminds her Mom of Royal. Dahlia even looks like Royal. Royal passed away at only 4 years old after a long illness. We all miss Royal at All Creatures, but are so happy that Dahlia has found a great new home.

Meet Lily, a 4 year old Morkie and her big sister 8 year old Little Orphan Annie (a Poodle Shih Tzu mix). They know how to sit pretty for their treats!! 🦴❤️
Lily came in for her yearly exam, vaccines, stool check & blood work. Annie was just along for the ride & treats! Annie gets very anxious if she gets separated from her little sister.

Many dogs are like Annie and suffer from separation anxiety. Other pets are terrified of thunderstorms or noisy fireworks.
Please schedule your cat or dog for a vet visit if they suffer from anxieties or noise phobias. Medications and other treatments are available to help these fearful pets.
Both Annie and Lily are unconcerned by fireworks.🎆🐶 When it comes to thunderstorms⛈️⚡️😟, it's a different story! Anxiety medication helps to calm them both.🐕🙂

Look at this cutie! Tallulah is a very curious 10 week old kitten who visited All Creatures as part of her kitten series (vet check up and vaccines). She's a typical kitten, full of mischief and she loves exploring. Give her a thumb's up if you agree that she has the most amazing ear hair! 🐱 Read more to learn more about this kitten...

Tallulah was too young to eat kitten food when she arrived at the NE Humane Society. Volunteers at the rescue NALA hand raised Tallulah as a 'bottle baby'. She went back to NHS when she was old enough to eat solid food. She was adopted from NHS shortly after her spay surgery. We learned that Tallulah loves crunchie cat treats so much that completely ignores her vaccines! Way to go, brave girl!
