We have another request for Saturday's Supply Drive!

Our Community Cats Program team will be putting together these handy outdoor shelters to distribute to CCP caretakers for when the weather gets cold. If you have any large styrofoam coolers lying around (at least 20in x 14in), we'll gladly take them off your hands!

Say hello to today's featured dog for Adopt A Shelter Dog Month, Loki!

With a name like Loki, you might expect him to be mischievous or ornery, but this Loki is the textbook definition of a Good Boy.

How do we know? We're so glad you asked.

On the back of each kennel is a yellow piece of paper where volunteers will leave notes on a dog's behavior, including any concerns or tips for other volunteers and staff working with that dog. Our volunteer dog walkers are pretty busy and don't always have time to stop and write a detailed note on every dog they walk, so they tend to focus on the most useful info.

Loki has been here for a while, so he has quite a few notes—48, to be exact (yes, we counted).
Within those 48 notes, how many times do you think the phrase "good boy" is used? How many times did our volunteers note how sweet he is, how well he does on walks or how good his manners are?

Actually, how many of his notes DON'T mention one of these things?
Two. Two notes that don't sing his praises. Instead, they're short remarks about Loki's activities that day: "Loki ran the fence with Blade and played with a squeaky toy" and "we played 'toss the treat' in the training room."

So if you don't believe us when we say Loki is a good boy, maybe you'll believe the 18 volunteers that wrote those exact words on his paperwork. Or maybe the 16 that talked about how sweet and affectionate he is. Or you can just come see for yourself 💜

Today is National Pets for Veterans Day!

NHS is proud to partner with the Nebraska VA to help Nebraska veterans adopt. The Vets Get Pets program from the Department of Veterans' Affairs disburses up to $350 to cover a veteran's pet adoption fees!

Additionally, we open one hour early (11a.m.) on the first Wednesday of each month for military veterans in Nebraska, along with individuals ages 55+, to adopt! Check out our next event Vets Get Pets Wednesdays for more info.

Be honest...you're completely distracted by Marvin's ears and you're not even reading this, are you?? That's what we thought.

In any case, how about we tell you a little more about Marvin, since he's today's feature for Adopt A Shelter Dog Month!

Marvin is what you could call a "young senior" in that his years may be high in number, but you'd never know it! Marvin loves to play and zoom around with a toy. At 8 years old, Marvin also knows how to appreciate the finer things in life. He loves a nice leisurely stroll, going for a pup cup, and snuggling up in the recliner for a nap.

One of our volunteers even took him on a little afternoon outing and said he was a perfect gentleman, loved the car ride and apparently he even prances a bit as he walks. Could he get any cuter??

On Sunday, Oct. 18, from noon-5 p.m., Tenth Sanctum Tattoo will be donating a portion of proceeds to help animals in need at NHS.

There's something for everyone on the flash sheets! Our boss said he'll personally give a tour of the shelter to any non-employee who gets the NHS logo tattooed on them! Plus, there's a gift bag ready for whoever does it first.
