• 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲: Leave the carrier out in your living room days before the visit with a cozy blanket inside. Drop a few high-value treats inside so your cat or dog learns to associate it with good things, not just vet trips.
• 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 & 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰: Spritz calming pheromone spray (like Feliway for cats or Adaptil for dogs) on a towel inside the carrier or car, and play soft classical music during the drive across Omaha.
• 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 "𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻" 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: For pets with moderate to severe travel or clinic anxiety, we can prescribe a safe, gentle, pre-visit "cooldown" medication dose to take at home before you leave. This medication doesn't knock them out; it simply takes the sharp edge off their anxiety, allowing them to feel calm, relaxed, and receptive to care.

This is good advice.

As a business owner they say never spend your time on anything that makes you 10% or less of your money. Knowing this, you can adapt that to your free time as well and not only benefit your own life but others' too!
So if you're awake 16 hours a day, and you take just 2 or 3% of that time (roughly 30 min) to support a local business, you both win and everything grows. They made a sale, you got a product, and you took a few minutes for yourself. Imagine if everyone did this every day, it's hard to imagine any place would be suffering.
I spent only 15 minutes of my break yesterday walking up to Zen on Farham and grabbed a delicious afternoon coffee. They are one of MANY businesses needing support right now. It was great, I walked outside and got some fresh air and got myself a drink and supported them. Zero fails. Next work day I'm hitting up The Grove because they got smacked right in a really bad spot, and deserve some love.

I challenge you to take 2% of your time one or two days this week, and take advantage of hitting up a place you haven't been in a while. Or ever. We all can doom scroll for those 30 minutes another time. You won't miss your phone, but you might miss a place if they go away. You'll find it was worth it, trust me. 👌❤️🙏

If you have ever tried to give a cat a tablet, you know it isn’t just a medical task—it’s an Olympic sport. One minute you’re holding a small pill, and the next, your sweet feline companion has transformed into an eight-legged octopus made of pure fury, somehow spitting the pill across the room while staring you directly in the eye.

We see this struggle every single day, and we want you to know: you are not bad at this, and your cat doesn't hate you! Felines are naturally protective of their mouths, so forced medication triggers a major defensive reflex.

• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸: Try hiding small pills inside a squishy, highly palatable treat (like a tiny piece of pill paste, cheese, or canned food). Make three treats: one plain, one with the pill, and one plain. Offer plain first, pill second, and plain immediately after!
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗿-𝗶𝘁𝗼": Gently wrap your cat in a bath towel with only their head sticking out. This keeps their paws safely contained, reduces their leverage, and makes them feel secure rather than cornered.
• 𝗟𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: If pills are a complete non-starter, let us know! Many common feline medications can be formulated into tasty liquids or even topical gels rubbed inside the ear flap.

Never fight a losing battle that damages the trust between you and your pet. If your cat refuses medication, call us so we can find a stress-free alternative!

Well, Omaha, today set a bit of a record here at Lone Tree Animal Care Center. By mid-afternoon, our veterinary team had already seen 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 different pets coming in with active flea infestations.

And here is the plot twist that catches so many loving pet parents off guard: over half of those furry patients live 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 indoors.

If you are sitting on the couch right now, looking at your pampered indoor cat or couch-potato dog and thinking, "𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘵, 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘨𝘰 𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘴," we completely understand. It feels like sound logic! But fleas didn't get the memo that your front door is an off-limits zone.

Here is what every pet parent needs to know about these sneaky little hitchhikers:

• 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳: Open windows, patio screens, and breezeways offer microscopic gaps. If a neighborhood squirrel, bunny, or stray animal passes by your porch, flea eggs can easily bounce through the screen onto your carpet.
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: A single adult flea on your pet is just 5% of the problem—the other 95% exists as eggs, larvae, and pupae hidden deep in rug fibers and couch cushions. One female flea can lay up to 50 eggs a day, turning a quiet Tuesday into a full-blown living room itch-fest within weeks.
• 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘃𝘀. 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Protecting your pet with a simple monthly preventive is quick, easy, and affordable. Clearing an established home infestation, on the other hand, requires months of intense vacuuming, washing every textile in sight, and constant stress.

The Street Car construction has now closed 24th Street at the Farnam intersection. While there is a big "road closed to thru traffic" construction barrier at the intersection of St. Mary's and 24th Street, the road is open to our parking lot and further on to Howard street. The lot is also accessible from 24th Avenue as normal. Please be careful approaching the parking lot; there are still people that haven't figured out the pattern and are going the wrong way down 24th Street!

We hoped we would be far enough away from the route that traffic patterns around the clinic would not be impacted, but it turns out the Street Car project has decided it's our turn.

🐶 24th Street will be closed between Howard and Farnam.
🐶 Farnam and Harney will also be closed around the 24th Street intersections.
🐶 24th Avenue will remain open.

So the impact you'll see is that accessing the parking lot will be the same as it's always been, but if you depart by 24th Street heading towards Douglas, you'll be forced to turn right on Howard. If you have any questions or need any help with directions, let us know by phone or text.

Have you been putting off getting your dog's flea and tick prevention? Fleas are still active even though the days and nights are slightly cooler, and they will stay active until the temperatures are below 32F! But keep in mind Bravecto Quantum, an injection that provides year-round flea and tick protection is available. And now, from Sept. 21 to Dec. 19, there is a $20 rebate on each injection. During our latest continuing education (CE) conference, our staff attended "Feline Bathroom Blunders: Strategies for Successful Elimination Behavior", a course on how to help identify issues with cats and how the use the litter box. We learned new strategies for how to identify which litter is appropriate for a cat, whether they are comfortable with their "facilities", and how to improve appropriate and comfortable litter box usage. This is Dr. Emily- let me just brag on my staff for a minute. They are the BEST people. They are willing to go along with my volunteer ideas without complaint, to give back to our community. They work hard, and they're caring, kind, and empathetic. I couldn't do it without them. Today we went to the Nebraska Diaper Bank, and wrapped 18,150 diapers for babies in the area. Last month, we headed out to Fontenelle Forest to help clear some invasive undergrowth. Let them know that you appreciate them, too, please. It's a hard job they do, and they deserve to know how special they are.
