🌴🐴 Gulf Coast Classic Wrap-Up 🐴🌴

What a great few weeks at the Gulf Coast Winter Classic in Gulfport, MS! It was such a pleasure to be part of this show series and to work with so many talented horses and dedicated riders.

I truly enjoyed meeting everyone, reconnecting with familiar faces, and having the opportunity to support both horses and riders throughout the show. From helping manage soreness and fatigue to fine-tuning movement and performance, it’s always rewarding to be part of keeping everyone feeling and performing their best during a busy competition schedule.

These shows are a great reminder of how much of a difference proactive care and teamwork can make—not just for performance in the ring, but for long-term soundness and success.

Thank you to everyone who trusted me to be part of your program while in Gulfport—I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work with you and your horses.

✨ I’m already looking forward to crossing paths again—whether that’s back in Gulfport, at another show on the road, or possibly planning future trips to the area!

Safe travels home, and best of luck for the rest of your season! 🐎💪

We are excited to share that Dr. Marisa Henry will be traveling to work at the Gulf Coast Winter Classic, providing physical therapy services for both the equine and equestrian athletes, for the end of Week 3 as well as Weeks 4-5 of the show!

Horse shows place unique physical demands on both horses and riders. Repeated classes, travel, footing changes, and long days can lead to acute soreness, stiffness, and muscle fatigue - even in well conditioned athletes. Physical therapy during a show can help address these issues early by:

💆‍♀️ Reducing muscle tension and post-competition soreness
🔄 Improving circulation and recovery between classes
🐎 Restoring normal movement patterns after hard efforts
🧘‍♀️ Supporting joint mobility and soft tissue health
🏇 Helping riders stay balanced, comfortable, and effective in the saddle

Addressing soreness promptly can improve comfort, performance, and consistency throughout multi-week shows, while also helping prevent compensatory movement patterns that may increase injury risk.

📩 Appointments are available during the show - please contact us at (402)226-8992 (text or call!) to get on the schedule.

We're looking forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new clients, and enjoying some beautiful Gulf Coast weather while supporting horses and riders through a successful show series.

See you ringside! ☀️🏇

Meet Chloe! We got so many amazing photos from EMDukat Photography, but this one of Chloe, Louise, Clover, and Sprite was the team favorite!

Chloe has been an integral part of the Rise AWR team for a little over a year. She entered the world of canine rehabilitation initially while caring for her dear Loretta. Chloe and Loretta navigated a neurosurgery, orthopedic diagnoses, and more in their time together. Now Chloe is pursuing a career in veterinary rehabilitation in Loretta's honor. Chloe brings a calming and kind presence to the rehab gym. All of the animals love her, and not just because she is the 'peanut butter lady' 😋

Fun fact - Loretta was the first dog to get in our new underwater treadmill back in 2023. See the photo in the comments of her inaugural walk in the water 🥰

Sometimes I go from posting often… to not a peep on this page. 🫣
Don’t let that fool you. I’ve got more images in the queue than hours in the day lately, and I’m finally coming up for air to share some of them!

Which means getting all my squirrels to the same tree (I gave up on the “ducks in a row” idea).

And speaking of a duck… plus a goat and a pony — Chloe wanted her whole crew involved, so that’s exactly what we did. 💛

Huge thanks to Rise Animal Wellness and Rehabilitation for having me out this fall to photograph your crew (oh, and dogs were absolutely included, too!). When your work revolves around caring for animals, it only feels right to document the ones who make the place feel like home.

🐎 Exciting Equine News from Rise Animal Wellness and Rehabilitation! 🐴

We are thrilled to announce that track boarding is now available with Rise Animal Wellness and Rehabilitation! Reach out to Dr. Marisa Henry or Dr. Whitley Case (contact info in the comments!) to discuss how track boarding can benefit your horse directly. ✨Limited spots available starting in October!✨

A track system (also known as a Paddock Paradise system) encourages horses to move more naturally throughout the day by creating a purposeful layout with resources— hay, water, minerals, and shelter—placed in different areas along the track. This design promotes steady, low-intensity movement similar to how horses would roam in the wild.
The benefits of this setup include:
🐎Encouraging frequent, natural movement over a variety of surfaces that supports healthy joints, muscles, and hooves. This is particularly helpful for horses with chronic hoof diagnoses like navicular syndrome.
😋 Promoting better digestion and gut health through constant, relaxed foraging.
🐴 Supporting mental well-being by reducing boredom and creating choice and variety in the environment.
💪 Allows for easier maintenance of healthy body condition, making it simple to identify nutritional needs and adjust caloric intake to keep horses at a healthy weight. This is especially helpful for horses prone to metabolic or laminitic issues.

At Rise Animal Wellness and Rehabilitation, we believe that movement is medicine. Our new track boarding option offers a dynamic, horse-centered environment designed to keep your horse healthier, happier, and more engaged.

Boarding your horse with licensed physical therapists provides a unique level of care that goes beyond traditional boarding. With professional expertise in movement, rehabilitation, and injury prevention, your horse benefits from daily observation by trained eyes that can identify subtle changes in posture, gait, or behavior. This allows for early intervention, opportunities for customized exercise or conditioning plans, and a management approach that prioritizes long-term soundness, comfort, and performance.
