We're looking for our next team member to join us before the summer is over. Join the team of a multi-award winning Omaha based pet sitting business and learn how it all works. The fluffy snuggles are an added bonus!

Position: Dog Walker/Pet Sitter
Hours: Part-Time Primarily Monday - Friday Mornings & Afternoons; Occasional weekends and evenings

Duties:
Dog Walking
Drop In Visits
Sending Report Cards
Litter Box Cleaning
Feeding
Maintaining Routines & Trainings
Maintaining Client Confidentiality
Assist With Community Events

Ideal Team Member:
• Must have reliable transportation
• Understands the constant fluctuation of the industry
• Maintains excellent contact with management & clientele
• Has great time management & attention to detail
• Is comfortable working with reactive dogs that require structure & balance
• Is comfortable working with all types and species of animals
• Has prior animal experience or eager willingness to learn

Position requires multiple weeks of shadowing and training, meeting with clients and online education.

Pay starts at $15/hr - 5 to 10 hours a week minimum

*CANINE MATCHMAKING: The key to successful dog ownership*

Coming out of my posting hibernation to talk about what I think is the MOST important problem to conquer in the dog industry: people bringing home dogs that make no sense for their lifestyle.

Recently I wrote a blog post about how you can be proactive in selecting a dog that you are compatible with, which prevents so many problems. I see blatant mismatches so often, which usually could have been easily avoided through better owner education. Sometimes it’s not a behavior issue, it’s first and foremost a compatibility issue. The personality and needs of the dog do not align with the personality and needs of the human. When this is the case training can only get you so far. This causes more dogs to be returned to and deposited at shelters.

On top of many people not understanding what type of dog best suits their life, there are problems at every layer of the industry that set them up for failure. Dogs not being properly and thoroughly evaluated at shelters/rescues (of course there are some that are doing a great job of this!), bad breeders creating dogs with poor temperaments and not caring to vet buyers or provide proper education, trainers not understanding how to show people who their dog is and what they need, etc...

With all these potential failure points, the best way to prevent a mismatch is ultimately owner education. Knowing what you need to enrich your life, not add stress and conflict, and knowing what questions to ask to ensure you achieve a good match.
