Oh hey all! Teach forgot to get some pics of me out there just working it on that walk. For real, I didn’t freak out at people (okay maybe I tried, but figured out we don’t do that anymore). I didn’t try smelling all the smells and just kept right by my humans side. Okay, okay.. at first I did and I may have tried a couple times, but I swear I got back on track. Anyways, it was solid and then I got to get a nice doggy massage in the cool AC. I think this whole new way of walking is going to work nicely for me.. and my human!

What does kennel trained mean and look like?
This right here; excited to go and calm when in there! We must offer our dogs a safe space and a place to just be and not have to worry about anything.
Kenneling doesn’t have to be done forever and it is not a punishment. Having a dog comfortable in their kennel is doing them a service. It helps them go to a board train, it helps if you need them to go get boarded, or in a time where for healing purposes they need kennel time, it will be one less stress for both you and your dog; it is a life skill they all need.
Shout out to Jazzys humans for helping her with this.

This is what being consistent and clear can lead to. We must help our dogs learn how to do all this stuff. Then we must be very consistent with these things.
I don’t like a whole lot of commotion, words and energy in situations where calm is more helpful and showing is more productive. You can see here that Jazzy caught on to the rule that an open door is not her invitation just to go out. Along with that she figured out, because I helped her figure this out, that I am the one that will give the OK to go out of it. So proud of this girl and how well she is doing.

Miss Roxy is a lucky girl who lives out in the country, which means she doesn’t have a lot of those city distractions (lucky dog). And what that means is the city distractions can be very challenging for the human to help keep the dog focused on them.
The structured walk has definitely gotten better with them at home, but then when coming here or going out into the big world, there was still a lot of her pulling and having a hard time focusing on the human at the other end of the leash. We brought in the E collar to help with off leash reliability, but this is also going to help with less pressure on those structured walks and more focus on the human. Here I was just having them work on the long line with Ecollar communication and not having to be right next to her but follow me. I think having some work with this and not so much chaotic leash communication is going to help them so much with the walk and all of the dog training.

If you do not want your dog darting out the front door running around going to see all their friends, you must help them learn and open door is not your invitation just to dart out of it. You must help them learn you are this amazing creature that lets them out the door. This is done for obviously safety reasons, but also it is leadership. We have to help our dogs learn that we bring all the good stuff. A big mistake I see happen though is people are not consistent enough with this. When this happens, a dog does not or cannot trust you as a leader. Remember their success is completely up to us and dog training is just not sit, down, stay.
