Public Health Day is tomorrow, April 7th!

**Gun violence KILLS more than 90 Americans a day and injures hundreds more. This can be prevented BUT it takes research. Gun Violence still remains one of the most UNDERFUNDED areas of public health research. Call your Senator tomorrow and ask them to support the effort for more research on Gun Violence!

Gun Laws in SC:
No permit is necessary in the purchase of any type of firearm; no registration of fi****ms is enforced; permits to carry are only issued to those seeking to carry a concealed handgun.

Furthermore, non-residents to the state of South Carolina may also purchase rifles or shotguns in the state, as long as he/she follows the necessary laws of the state as well as federal regulations. Only residents of South Carolina are allowed to purchase handguns within the state's borders. Age restrictions are not succinctly specified in the states legislature in regards to the purchase of fi****ms, but it can be assumed that a minimum age of 18 is required.

A study found that at least 82 percent of teens who committed su***de with a gun used a weapon belonging to someone in their home. Another found that a 10 percent drop in the percentage of households owning guns was associated with an 8.3 percent decline in overall su***de rates for young people over a 22-year period.
