Update on the puppy family I posted about last week.
She is doing great and is back at home with her family. The family would like to share their experience for people to learn and be aware of dangers in our homes. Their experience is below. We would like to express our thanks to everyone who kept this family in their thoughts and prayers!
PSA for Puppy Owners (please read & share)
I’m sharing this in hopes it keeps another family from going through what we did.
On Thursday morning, our 10-week-old golden retriever, Millie, was electrocuted after biting a surge protector cord. It happened in our family room when she managed to get past a baby gate for just a moment and reached a power strip plugged in behind a bench.
We suddenly heard a horrible sound and saw her run past. When we checked on her, her mouth was stuck in an open position, there was foaming, and her breathing was clearly distressed. We rushed her to the vet, where they found burns inside her mouth. X-rays showed pulmonary edema (fluid in her lungs) caused by the electrical shock.
Millie spent the next five days fighting for her life in an oxygen cage, transferring between hospitals for continued care. We are incredibly grateful that she is finally back home and recovering.
I did not realize how dangerous exposed cords and surge protectors could be to puppies—especially curious, teething ones. This happened fast and in what we thought was a puppy-safe space.
Please take a moment to:
• Keep cords, power strips, and surge protectors completely out of reach
• Don’t rely on baby gates alone
• Use cord covers or unplug when possible
• Assume if a puppy can reach it, they will
We believe God’s hand was on Millie, guiding us to act quickly and providing her with the right care. We are trusting Him with her continued recovery and are so thankful for every answered prayer so far.🩷
