As a preservation breeder of miniature poodles, our breeding program focuses on achieving optimal genetic outcomes. While we strive to minimize health risks, some issues can still arise later in life due to unforeseen factors. The diagnosis of a collapsed trachea in a three-year-old puppy I bred serves as a reminder that certain conditions can occur without any genetic predisposition in the breed or our specific lines. Notably, there is no history of this issue in my lines over five generations, and both parents and grandparents are currently healthy, underscoring the potential impact of other factors. When vets tell people that its genetic it makes it very difficult to explain that as it may be genetic in some breeds it isnt always a genetic problem. Its very frustrating as a breeder to be blamed when something happend years later.

One of the most significant challenges of being a show breeder is that sometimes your show prospect does not meet expectations. I had high hopes for my male Booker, but unfortunately, he developed a testicular issue that made him unsuitable for showing, and I decided to rehome him as a pet. I still have his mother and plan to repeat the breeding, but it is difficult for me to part with him.

He has found his forever home. I have a beautiful 7 month old black male available to a pet home. He was held back as pick of the litter for show but he will not be able to be shown.
