❕❕Farm News❕❕
— Eggs: Where are the eggs?!
We will not have eggs until January 2027 because we sold off all of our birds. We have a new batch a chicks starting right now, but they won’t lay until January.
Why did we sell the chickens? Even though our chickens are only (at most) 4 years old, we raise eggs for the community. Egg production takes a dip around that age. They are still prolific layers for a typical household, but we’re trying to feed the community.
Another reason we made this decision is because older birds like to molt during fall and winter. Which, if you’ve been around our farm for a while, you’ve experienced lulls in eggs during the cold months. When chickens molt, they don’t typically produce eggs. So we would feed 100+ birds for 3 months without any eggs.
I’m sharing this so you can understand some of the intricacies small farms have. This is what works best for us and it’s the best way we can continue to support our community.
— Elderberries:
I tell you what, these things are taking their sweet time ripening. I may have slowed them down with over mulching them this winter. But they’re coming along, just a little slower than usual.
We WILL have you pick elderberries this year. For a dang steal of a price. $5 per pound for you pick elderberries. $10 per pound for frozen berries.
— Produce:
I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding with this year’s harvests. I’m glad we were able to get the garden up after Farmer Bs injury. But I have let that thing run feral. A nice mix of weeds and beautiful red tomatoes.
We will continue to put out produce until the end of season. Follow our stories for updates.
— Farmstand:
Even though we don’t have eggs, we still have a full farmstand.
Stop by and enjoy our Free Lending Library and Free Seed Library. We are always accepting donations for both.
In October we will have Halloween gift bags for kids this year, so make sure you stop by to grab one.
In December we will have another giving tree to help support our local families.
✨
We are so thankful to be surrounded by such an incredible community.
Thank you for supporting us, we are so grateful.
