I told the world I would give an update on Aggies dietary issues as they occurred. Everyone at this point is usually aware, but Aggie has had a lot of health complications since forever. She’s on a vegan diet currently to try and help her sensitive stomach.

Since the last update Aggie has had some other complications. She got diagnosed with colitis, we suspect epi and will be doing testing for that soon. She eats multiple small meals a day and nothing outside of those meals.

About a month ago her keratin was separating from her one nail and nail bed, and we had to remove it to prevent infection and for her safety. She’s been in the process of that recovery and stuck in a cone with minimal movements since then.

Now, Aggie is experiencing a phenomenon (I definently am clueless here) where ALL of her nails are having trouble at the nails beds on the sides of her paw pads on every paw. I’m awaiting further direction from her vet on how he would like to handle this. I have NO idea currently what is causing this or how to help her. I have no idea if it’s because of her malnutrition we can’t seem to escape, or some freak accident.

She does get her toes and her whole body professionally taken care of on a regular basis. I’m not worried it was cause by that or that her nails would’ve been too long and put too much pressure on her toes. Her nails have gotten long before a long while back, and even then, this did not occur.

So if anyone has been waiting to hear back from me, or even just wanted an Aggie update I don’t have much of a special medical analysis done yet. I will update everyone once I know more, but don’t want to put assumptions or labels on anything until I know for sure.

Thank you for reading.

One thing I love about my little groups is how well they all play together ❤️
Phoebe- she watched. Dug some holes. Solo time.
Ralphie and Tucker- hard playing and mouthing.
Joey- king of scream and run.
A little appreciation post for ALL of my wonderful clients. I’ve had a lot of learning and growing over the last 4 years of running my own business solo. And every single one of you make it possible!

I’m very happy and proud that the changes I’ve made within my own education and methods in this career align with the scientists, drs, and top docs so to speak of our industry. The American veterinary society of animal behavior has finally said it loud and proud.

And for all of those in the back who have done things differently in the past, it’s never too late to continue education and update yourself on current methods and understandings based on the ever expanding peer reviewed studies and cases we continue to learn from all the time ❤️

Disclaimer: I spent a week designing this myself on my drawing tablet- this is not ai.

I said a few months ago that I was going to be announcing my new business hours publically starting in August. I reached out to current clients that would be affected last week and changed anything that needed changed. This is my formal announcement to adjust my business hours going forward. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! Thank you.

Signs of smoke irritation in dogs- Watch for:
Coughing
Gagging
Sneezing
Eye irritation or redness
Nasal discharge
Increased panting
Fatigue
Difficulty breathing

***If a dog develops breathing difficulty, persistent coughing, collapse, or blue/pale gums, they should receive veterinary care immediately.***

Helping Dogs During Poor Air Quality:

🏠 Keep dogs indoors as much as possible when AQI is elevated.
🚶 Shorten walks and avoid strenuous exercise during smoky conditions.
💧 Provide plenty of fresh water to help keep airways hydrated.
🌬️ Run an air purifier with a HEPA filter if possible, or keep windows and doors closed.
🧩 Provide indoor enrichment such as puzzle toys, scent games, training sessions, or chew items to replace outdoor exercise.
🚗 Avoid riding with windows down when smoke is present.
❤️ Monitor high-risk dogs closely, including puppies, senior dogs, brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds, and dogs with heart or respiratory disease.
👀 Watch for signs of smoke irritation, including coughing, excessive panting, watery eyes, lethargy, or difficulty breathing.
🩺 Contact your veterinarian if your dog develops persistent coughing, breathing difficulty, weakness, or other concerning symptoms.

This puppy was 9 weeks old and I had only know her for about 1 day prior to this. No aversives. No force. No desperate attempts to control the situation. Starting small, building confidence, increasing difficulty at what she responded well to, then increasing novelty in location. We had a super solid relationship, recall, and understanding by the time she was 10 weeks. Yes, I used food. And for her I could use toys as well. She also was willing to accept her morning kibble as part of her reward system under the right conditions.

There is a stigma around training that doesn’t use lima or aversives, that it’s only management, or soft, or weak, or it can’t fix everything. This video does not show a complex behavior modification example, but it does show how influential we are to our dog in good and bad ways.

Do you see HOW exciting she was to run to me after she processed my cue? THAT is a good relationship. Excitement and trust with clear expectations and communication. Not fear and suppression with learned helplessness.

One of my favorite things about the luxury of working with animals is moments like this. Where you to see them just do their thing and be happy about it. Get to see them learn new things and build confidence in it. It’s hard to explain the warmth in my heart with sessions like these 🥹♥️

A waiting list for training and for expeditions will be posted to the website soon! Please note that I’m not entirely sure on the system I’m hoping to establish here besides what I’ve had in my previous experience; a list of people with animals, contact info, date of application, and needs of client.

I cannot guarantee when any open spots will be available, but rather, reach out to people as I complete cases, or a seasonal expedition dog needs a break!

It’s really exciting to have a waitlist again, I haven’t had one for about a year since stepping away from Seattle clients (as where I used to be before Olympia). I’m very open to hearing about methods and tips about experiences using wait lists- from hopefully both the client and business perspective!

I hope to make this process as user friendly as possible on both ends! For now, ciao ♥️🐾
