❤️🐾 WHEN SHOULD MY DOG BE TESTED FOR HEARTWORMS? 🐾❤️

Heartworm disease is a serious, potentially life-threatening disease spread by MOSQUITOES. The good news? It’s preventable! The American Heartworm Society recommends routine testing, even for dogs that are receiving heartworm prevention year-round.

🐶 Puppies
• Start heartworm prevention by 8 weeks of age.
• Test 6 months after starting prevention.
• Test again 6 months later.
• Then continue with annual heartworm testing.

🐕 Adult dogs on heartworm prevention
• Test every year, even when prevention has been given consistently.

⚠️ Missed a dose or had a lapse in prevention?
• Restart prevention as soon as possible.
• Have your dog tested 6 months after the lapse is recognized, since it can take time for an infection to become detectable.
