Our mission is to protect the health, safety, and well-being of both animals and the community by providing compassionate, professional, and responsive animal care and control services. This is accomplished by controlling populations of stray and feral animals and enforcing County ordinances. Saint Louis County animal control officers cover 500+ square miles of land. They respond to calls regardin

Not only is our shelter out of space, but we're also running out of options.

Without the support of the community through foster and adoption... some pets in our shelter may not be guaranteed a tomorrow.

Make no mistake, this is a crisis. 💔

The pets keep coming in. The kennels keep filling up. And soon... there will be nowhere left to house animals who have nowhere else to go.

If you have the ability, PLEASE take action today. Please make the decision to save a life.

We will be waiving ALL adoption fees for ALL dogs and ALL cats. Come take advantage Thursday through Sunday and make the decision to save a life ❤️

ICYMI 💙

On Saturday, our shelter hosted our first free community pet vaccination clinic since taking over operations at the shelter back in 2025. Thanks to our friends over at St. Louis County SAVE, the clinic was a huge success!

Nearly 50 pets were given the rabies and DHPP vaccine free of charge! Microchips were also offered to everyone who brought their pet out!

Thank you to everyone who practiced responsible pet ownership by taking advantage of this free opportunity! Have a pet who needs their vaccinations? Keep an eye on our page for upcoming vaccine clinics! This is the first of many initiatives aimed at making our Animal Care and Control system more accessible and community focused for the residents of Saint Louis County.

🚨 WE ARE OUT OF SPACE 🚨

Simply put, our shelter is on the brink of crisis; we are out of room.

The time for waiting is over. NOW is the time for action.

We've shared how critically low on space we are for dogs... but with the summer months upon us, our cat population has skyrocketed.

📣 We have more than 100 cats and kittens and we need YOUR help to bring that number down 📣

And those dogs we mentioned? After making progress the last two weeks, we are right back into critical territory after a large intake from a backyard breeding and cruelty investigation. Not only that... there is potential for another large intake this week from a similar investigation 💔

Here's the bottom line...this isn't a plea for people. This is a plea for innocent pets who have often been neglected, abused, or abandoned by the ones they thought they could love.

But YOU can be the reason these pets find hope and remember what true love feels like. ❤️

Not ready to commit to adopting a pet? Our FREE foster program is perfect for you. Fostering a pet is the most powerful way you can help right now. Fostering gets animals out of the shelter quickly, opens space for pets who need our help, and allows us to learn more about how an animal responds in a home setting. If you can provide the home, we provide everything else.

This is our reality and the reality of nearly 300 pets who don't know what went wrong. They need your support now more than ever.

Providing life-saving care to animals in need is what this field is all about; and today we got to welcome Tator Tot back to the shelter ❤️🎉

While we never want any dog to end up at the shelter, staff and volunteers were so thankful and relieved to see Tator Tot come through our doors this morning after we weren't sure he'd make it back.

Tator Tot was brought to our shelter by a local animal control officer earlier this week. He had a dangerously high temperature of 106 degrees and was immediately rushed to Veterinary Special Services for treatment. Staff at VSS had to do CPR on poor Tator Tot when he arrived... and thankfully were able to revive him with compressions.

VSS was able to treat Tator Tot while our shelter attempted to work with rescues to help afford his treatment. Unfortunately, nothing came through, and we are now faced with thousands of dollars in unexpected medical bills. But the most important thing? Tator Tot is doing Great! ❤️

This big boy came back to the shelter this morning and will continue to be evaluated by our vet staff. Thank you to everyone at VSS for helping get Tator Tot through an incredibly difficult time!

Once he is off his stray wait, we just know this goofy guy will make the best pet. 🏡🐾

Mocha had her minute of fame this morning, and boy, did she shine! 🤩

This sweet 2-year-old, 35-pound princess got to cross being a TV star off her list thanks to Fox2Now! Mocha made every single person stop and smile as they walked into the building and soaked up all the love and scratches! She even laid politely during the interview and showed off her "sit" and "paw" tricks behind the scenes 🤝

Mocha is the perfect dog for someone looking for a small (but not too small) pup to add to the family! She does great with other dogs, is friendly with kids, and only requires cuddles ❤️

Two of our long-stay friends have LEFT THE BUILDING!! ❤️👏🏡🐾

Violet had been in the shelter for more than 170 days... just patiently waiting for the moment someone gave her a chance. Well now, this princess is finally able to exhale and live the good life in a foster home while she waits a little longer for her forever person ❤️

And Beushie!! Oh, sweet Beushie. We are so so happy this guy finally found his person. Beushie has been an absolute favorite among staff and volunteers -- we were all just waiting and wondering why no one had scooped up this wonderful dog. But now, Beushie found his person and has kissed shelter life goodbye after more than 190 days 💙

These two represent the most powerful avenues when it comes to helping our population crisis - fostering and adopting! Our adoption fees are just $80 and include up-to-date vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, and a microchip!

A favorite game among staff and volunteers here at the shelter is "Can They Catch It??" and today, Mordecai, Puzzle, and Wave got to put their skills to the test!

As you can see in the pictures, Mordecai and Puzzle are PROS at catching treats! Wave on the other hand... well Wave certainly tried 😂

When you've been waiting for your forever family since November... you get a few extra chances to get out of the shelter and stretch your legs! 🐾

While we still aren't sure why Beushie continues to get looked over, we are sure that he is such a good boy! Beushie got to enjoy his Memorial Day in style thanks to one of our incredible volunteers! Besuhie spent his Monday:

🏞️ Taking in the beauty of Queeny Park while enjoying a stroll and greeting everyone he met
🚧 Browsed the isles of Home Depot
🛀 Got pampered and bathed at Shakers Dog Wash
🍦 Finished the day off with a Pup Cup

During his adventure, Beushie was very polite to strangers (not that he considers anyone a stranger 🤪), walked well on his leash, rode like a champ in the car, and was a pro at bath time.

Like we said, we really aren't sure why this good boy is still here! If you're looking for a 2-year-old, 55-pound ball of joy, look no further -- Beushie's your guy 💙🏡

🚨 EMERGENCY AT THE SHELTER CONTINUES🚨

We are still dangerously low on space.

Right now, our shelter is overcrowded, and we urgently need the community to continue stepping in. We must find homes — through adoption or fostering — for at least 50 large dogs by the end of TODAY, to help prevent this crisis from getting worse.

❤️ Thank you to every HERO who stepped up to adopt a dog over the weekend. 17 dogs left... but there is still much work to be done! Step up today and help bring a dog the joy that these pups felt heading home.

There are still so many good, hopeful dogs waiting behind kennel doors for someone to choose them. Many have already been abandoned, neglected, or forgotten once before. They deserve better than spending another night in a crowded shelter wondering if anyone will come for them.
