Spent the weekend with an incredible group of practitioners learning a transformative therapy for animals. This extremely gentle technique is something I think even the most sensitive pets and horses can accept!

Thank you Dr. Madalyn Ward for sharing this information with us. We can change the world, one heart at a time!

What do I do when I'm not working?

Why -- play with my dogs, of course!! 🥰

Pic from Saturday's NW3 trial in Warwick, NY where Miss Juniper overcame her false pregnancy woes to earn an NW3 Container title. We completed the title on a rare off-leash container search in which she proved that "our" problems in that element are purely handler-driven 😛

Back to work for me. What did you do this weekend?
PS: she looks so sad because she hates posing for pictures. I make her do it on rare occasions because my needs are relevant and it's over quickly!
Thanks to trial host - Rosalinda Garcia, and to my trainer Pat Tetrault of Top Notch Dog Training in Wappingers Falls NY.

This 2023 report describes a woman who contracted respiratory illness after her dog received a live "Kennel Cough" preventive.

Now, this kind of thing isn't common. The woman was on immunosuppressants, which left her more vulnerable to illness. Please consider the immune status of everyone in your home when you make health decisions for your pets. Make sure your veterinarian is aware of anyone with increased risks.

I want you to think about sending your dog to a boarding kennel, day care, or training center: do you consider timing of immunizations?

Because, if you administer one of these biologic therapies, for the next 2 weeks your dog is processing that therapy, and possibly shedding particles.

Those particles can be infectious to other dogs, or even humans who are immune compromised. It's also true that your dog needs at minimum 2 weeks to create antibodies that might protect him/her from illness.

This kind of preventive strategy is not so simple and straightforward as many of you appear to think - including many vets. They are powerful interventions and must be considered with the utmost of care.

mmmm I've not posted in awhile why not start back in with a Bang?! Go on hit me with your thoughts on this one:

“The rise in anxiety among American humans has been exhaustively documented,” Rose Horowitch wrote in 2024. “With much less fanfare, we also seem to have entered the age of the anxious canine.”

Many of America’s 85 veterinary behaviorists are booked months in advance. Several whom Horowitch spoke with said that the number of people seeking pet mental-health care has exploded in the past few years. But there is no consensus as to why. One theory is that dogs today are more anxious. More Americans are choosing to adopt pets, which saves lives but can leave traumatized pets with inexperienced owners. We’ve also altered the way pets live in ways that may make them anxious or aggressive toward people and other dogs. But it could also be that anxious adults are projecting their own issues onto their furry companions. What people classify as a behavioral issue reflects human expectations as much as a dog’s nature, according to a bioethicist.

“So is the dog-anxiety crisis real, or is it a product of owners’ anxiety-riddled psyches? Dogs can’t tell us how they’re feeling, so we’ll probably never know,” Horowitch continues. “But both explanations are depressing. Either humans are stressing dogs out so much that they truly need prescription meds, or owners are putting their dogs on unnecessary psychoactive drugs to address annoying but normal dog habits. It might be time, in other words, to reevaluate the way we approach dog ownership.

“Many Americans don’t have the time, energy, or green space their pets need to thrive,” Horowitch continues. “If the choice is to medicate our dogs or to make them, and ourselves, miserable, pet ownership starts to seem ethically murky.”

If you pick up after your dogs in public places, skip this post. The rest of ya: WHYYYY?! Yes, picking up your dog’s p**p is gross. Know what’s more gross? Picking up someone else’s dog’s p**p 🤢BUT looking at it every fkn day or worse, stepping in it because YOU can’t be bothered to clean up just makes me aggravated. I have 2 small dogs. I gathered a pound of dogsh*t on a 3 mile walk in the woods. This trail is heavily used, you’re sharing it!!

If the mailbox was a heifer, we’d need a lot of manpower to fix that pr*****ed package 😂

Dog and cat people: END CONFUSION NOW!!
Y’all, I was a well educated and highly trained horse vet when my beloved terrier got a devastating diagnosis. I became a holistic vet because I refused to accept THERE’S NOTHING WE CAN DO and found a whole world that’s not separate from, but ADJACENT TO conventional medical practice. Even the worst thing in the world can be a gift in disguise. FOLLOW ME if this makes sense — or — especially if it doesn’t!!

Y’all I just can’t anymore. Use that cantaloupe you lug around on the end of your neck and apply some critical thinking. Your pets depend on you!!

F**KERY OF THE DAY:

An otherwise thoughtful and intelligent client sent me a link to a FB post because she wanted to know if she should buy the product recommended.

The post claims to be written by a veterinarian who works at a clinic where she and her 2 veterinary colleagues identified a "skin barrier defect" in Labrador Retrievers.

The post claims that they "tested the skin barrier integrity" of dogs in their practice.

Let me be crystal clear:
NO SUCH TEST EXISTS!!!
NO SUCH LABRADOR RETRIEVER CONDITION EXISTS!!!
NO SUCH ANIMAL HOSPITAL EXISTS!!!

All you had to do with this post was CLICK ON THE GODDAM VET CLINIC PAGE and you see it is a fake account, not a vet clinic at all.

Go to the page where they want you to buy the product:
Wow look, it's 50% off!!!!

WHEN IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE - it is.

When you read a post that makes sweeping rhetorical claims - it's AI and you are being manipulated.

This is not the only example of this bu****it. It's everywhere. YOU are sharing posts written by AI expressly to manipulate your emotions - all those "touching stories" flooding your newsfeed?

MADE UP. NOT REAL.

A computer wrote those and the only aim is to distract you and take up your time and attention and make the spoofed, rhetorical, sweeping AI language model so familiar that you no longer recognize it's a machine.

I mean, I can Name That Tune in about 5 words. Y'all old people like me know what I am talking about.

Y'all need to turn your brains BACK ON and use critical thinking. WTF is actually in the bottles being sold are anyone's guess, as there's zero information on the site.

Companies that have COA's and use quality ingredients BRAG ABOUT THAT S**T ALL OVER THEIR SITES!

SPOOF ALERT!!

Friends - once again I need to warn you about advertising scams in the veterinary world.

I'll show you a post sent to me by a well-meaning caretaker to a family of Labrador Retrievers. She was ready to buy the advertised product, and I understand why.

AI excels at rhetorical content that sweeps you away and hits every button on your keypad of love and devotion to your pets.

Yet it takes VERY LITTLE TIME to confirm the veracity of the so-called post. Screenshot of the page of the FAKE vet clinic where the FAKE veterinarian of the FAKE post supposedly works.

And yet.....and yet I have to be so careful in how I word posts about valid health concerns, lest the FB bots shut me down. It happens, has happened to real life friends and colleagues.

Get on my newsletter where I can speak without fear of censorship (for now). Buy any workshops I offer, where I can speak freely.

You know where to go to find out how to join me.

The pic is from the FAKE ACCOUNT set up by humans who only want your money:
