1000 Happened today. For many years I've had a goal to propagate 1000 coral frags in a single year. As I went downstairs today I knew it was going to happen. As I started cutting I thought what would my 1000th frag of 2026 be? Would it be random? Would it be a highly sought after stick like our Walt Disney, Home wrecker Angry Birds, or Orange passion? Maybe it should be a Godzilla yuma after all this one coral has been one of my life's greatest blessings, as I fragged some zoanthids, a poccilapora that I had accidently broken and some forest fire mushrooms it hit me.
998 Sinularia
999 Snowflake toadstool
1000 Turbinaria
3 seemingly trivial corals that I chose to get to this milestone. Not because of beauty or value, but because 19 years ago I started a reef tank in my office as a social worker and I brought the above 3 to start growing corals. 19 years later they are all still thriving along with my clownfish pal Samson that came home that first trip. It was a deliberate throwback to a beginning of a passion that is still strong, that has become more than I ever expected, so these 3 corals this evening represent not only my first steps into aquaculture and aquariums, but my next steps as Son and Sand continues to grow from very humble beginnings to growing over 1000 corals annually. Thank you to everyone that has ever supported and continues to support this crazy unconventional life I live.
