The soundtrack of late summer on the Connecticut Shoreline? CICADAS. 📢🌳🐾

If your dog has suddenly discovered these noisy little backyard visitors, you're not alone. Some dogs ignore cicadas completely. Others consider them fascinating toys...or crunchy seasonal snacks. 🤢

The good news is that cicadas aren't considered toxic to dogs. However, eating too many can still cause problems. Their hard exoskeletons can be difficult to digest and may lead to vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach upset, while gobbling large cicadas can potentially create a choking hazard.

A few tips during cicada season:

🐾 Discourage your dog from eating cicadas on walks.
🐾 Practice a strong "leave it" cue. Carry treats with you to reinforce it.
🐾 Keep a closer eye on dogs who like to eat everything they find.
🐾 Contact your veterinarian if your dog eats a large number or develops concerning symptoms afterward.
🐾 Muzzle your dog on walks if he or she treats them as a cicada buffet.

Our travel services, including drop-in visits, Almost Overnights, and overnight care, are reserved for established recurring dog walking and Adventure Hike clients after at least four weeks of midday services.

It isn't about gatekeeping our calendar. It's about building relationships before taking on the much bigger responsibility of caring for your pets while you're away.
