✨Meet our Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Elyce Thomas!✨

Originally from Lompoc, California, Elyce moved to Oklahoma in 2005 with her family after high school and pursued her Sonographer career in Tulsa at the American Institute for Medical Technology after completing her Associate’s degree in Applied Science from OCCC. Elyce has worked in general/vascular ultrasound specializing in transcranial doppler for stroke management, obstetrics, and has now found her calling in Veterinary Medicine helping patients daily with abdominal and cardiac ultrasound. Elyce makes sure to take the time to make each pet and their owner feel calm and relaxed when they come in to our center. We are so proud to have Elyce on our team, and are excited to watch her continued dedication and success here at Oncura Partners! ❤️

"I love my career at OPVIC and am excited for the future of Oncura here in OKC! Outside of work, I spend all my time with my four-year-old son, Wyatt. We like to stay active and play sports or hike in the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. Our favorite place to visit is the OKC Zoo, we love the Sea Otters! When I’m not busy being Mom, I enjoy fishing and reading, and when there’s time, I enjoy traveling with friends. My favorite destinations have been O’ahu, Hawaii and Sedona, Arizona." - Elyce Thomas, RDMS

Ever wondered what Cushing’s Disease was?!

Cushing’s Disease, also known as Hyperadrenocorticism (HAC), is a condition that occurs when an animal's body produces too much cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone that helps regulate metabolism, stress response, and immune function!

What are some common symptoms of Cushings?

•Polyuria (increased urination) and polydipsia (increased thirst)

• Hair loss

• Abdominal distention

• Recurrent skin infections or fragile/thin skin

• Muscle weakness and reduced activity

How could an ultrasound benefit the diagnosis of Cushing’s?

If you are unsure if you want to do bloodwork for the Cushing’s test, an ultrasound can help narrow down the decision making for you! An ultrasound can allow visualization of any benign or malignant tumors of the adrenal glands, as well as obtain measurements of the adrenal glands, which gives you a better idea of if you should move on with further testing.

Let’s talk about —> Heart Disease ❤️‍🩹

Going to the veterinarian can raise lots of questions. What’s a heart murmur? How do we help? Why do we need an echocardiogram? Patients with heart murmurs, chronic coughs, pleural effusion or ascites are all candidates for an echocardiogram! Echocardiograms are the gold standard for diagnosing and evaluating heart disease. Getting a baseline assessment of your pets heart helps either guide early therapy options or enables long term monitoring for a good quality of life! Echos provide a much more detailed view of the heart's structure, function, including valve movement and blood flow, while X-ray on the other hand can only provide a general picture of the heart's size and shape. Although x-rays are the start of finding out what’s wrong, echos are the final diagnostic that help put your pet at ease.

Pictured below is 9 yr old feline who presented with grade 4 heart murmur and arrhythmia. Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and systolic anterior motion “SAM” of the mitral valve were identified on the echocardiogram- check the comments for a video of the heart in action!!

Have you been wondering what the benefits of diagnostic imaging can do to help your pets?! 🐾

✨Let us tell you the number one reason- EARLIER DETECTION LEADS TO BETTER OUTCOMES! ✨

The ever- increasing percentage of geriatric pets demands that we incorporate the appropriate preventative diagnostics to aid in *EARLY* detection. Blood panels🩸, urinalysis🔬 and radiographs🩻 are all great starts to helping your furry friends, but ultimately will NOT detect most occult and early cancers seen in elderly pets.

Ultrasounds are more helpful in assessing abdominal masses, allows visualization of the organ parenchyma as it relates to masses, diffuses parenchymal changes and fluid accumulations. All of this adds up to a more comprehensive internal exam that allows you to get the answers you’ve been looking for 24-48 hours post exam! 🐶🫶🏻🐱

Don’t be a scaredy cat, call your vets and get up close and personal with Oncura- like BEAN!
