✨ Luna update ✨

The doctor called me today after Luna’s visit on Saturday. The good new first, her bloodwork looks amazing! Everything is within normal range, even her SDMA! 🩷

The unfortunate news, she got abnormal results for her urine. Her urine was dilute & has crystals (CALCIUM OXALATE DIHYDRATE).

Typically dilute urine keeps crystals away. I have a lot of information but I won’t 100% know more until later.

Green vegetables can also be a contributing factor to that type of crystal but Luna does * not * eat veggies 🤣 she says “nope!”. Ask Kira Schultz what happened when she offered Luna a sweet potato. 😝

I am going to catch her first p*e of the day on Saturday & bring it into the clinic for a recheck. I forgot to ask if it’s in house testing or sent off but - I hope to have answers quickly.

The crystals can potentially mean stones that have to be surgically removed - but let’s not go there till we have to & hopefully, we don’t.

My anxious mind can’t handle waiting more than we have already. 😔

Also good news, she ate her breakfast this morning, at lunch time & she ate her dinner this evening! With 0 toppers or anything added. YAY LUNA! 🩷 I’ve only added stuff in a handful of times so that she understands she still has to eat her food. Maybe this new food is a winner, her age is slowing her eating & she is changing to want to eat later in the day. As long as she’s eating, that’s what matters. (Well she’s had the brand before Taste of the Wild but it was many years ago).

Now we wait. 🤞🏻✨🌙💖🍕

*after vet appointment update*: Luna has lost 4 pounds since January. The dr. is waiting on bloodwork results before we make any decisions or run further tests * we should have results by Monday 6.8 or Tuesday 6.9 *

On January 8th Luna had surgery & had 3 lipomas removed. January 11th is when Leo passed away. 💔

Edit to add: they did a dental on her while she was under anesthesia in January also. Zero issues with her teeth & she didn’t need any extractions. 🩷

Luna stopped eating after Leo passed. She would eat here & there but rarely finished a full bowl of food. In February she got better & was eating just about normally. In March, Jack passed away 💔 & Luna stopped eating again. Luna is very much in tune with my emotions & she is very emotionally smart. If you’ve had the privilege of loving a husky, you know they can be picky eaters; but this is something else.

It can be typical / normal for huskies to go a bit without eating. They have an amazing metabolism & are bred to be able to run. It’s a very interesting topic to research!

Throughout the years she’s done this a few times & didn’t want anything to eat but for a majority of the time (until this year) she’s always finished her bowls. Sometimes eating through the day & sometimes eating a full bowl of breakfast & one of dinner. She’s always been a slow eater. It can take her an hour to eat because she doesn’t eat it all in a few minutes like most dogs.

For April, May & now June I’ve been keeping a daily log of her food intake. She goes to the vet tomorrow for annual vaccines & bloodwork & to likely add on a thyroid test & anything else the doctor recommends.

We have tried different brands of food, samples from stores. She was eating Fromm Black & Gold + Skoki Coastal.
Now she is eating Taste of the Wild ancient prairie with bison & venison; that is going better than anything else we’ve tried. She is still wooo woooin, has energy, she isn’t lethargic or dehydrated. She has only thrown up if she eats grass which has been 3x total throughout April, May & June.

If you have any thoughts or ideas - please let me know. She WILL eat her entire bowl if you add tuna 🐟 or chicken 🍗 to her food. I didn’t want to give that to her every meal without consulting a vet & being smart about everything going into her system.

Please send all the good vibes our way that it’s a mixture of grief, her getting older & appetite changes. 🩷✨ She will be 12 in September. Luna, my heart dog, you have to be okay! 🌙🍕💖
