The Greyhounds story starts in Egypt about 5,00 years ago. Hounds of the Pharaoh were designed to detect, chase, capture, and dispatch wildlife. The subjects of the pharaoh, the beauty of the dog was an extension to their ruler. Used for racing, the first event was in England 1876 on a straight track. Coursing, the Greyhounds chase a live Hare, is now banned in most countries. With the invention of the artificial hare in America 1912, the course became the modern oval shape.
