Say cheese, Yoshi! 📸🐶 Just look at that adorable smile!
Yoshi came to see us after he began shaking his head, scratching at his ears, and crying out when he laid on them. His owner had also noticed a large amount of debris building up inside his ears over the previous two to three weeks.
We collected samples from Yoshi’s ears and examined them under a microscope. This test, called an ear cytology, showed an overgrowth of yeast and cocci—a type of round-shaped bacteria. These organisms can cause significant inflammation, itching, pain, odor, and discharge.
We thoroughly cleaned Yoshi’s ears to remove the buildup and medicated them to treat the infection. Ear infections are often secondary to an underlying issue, with environmental or food allergies being common triggers. When allergies inflame the ear canals, they create an environment where yeast and bacteria can multiply more easily.
Despite his uncomfortable ears, Yoshi was the sweetest boy and smiled at us throughout his visit. Have you ever seen a more adorable grin? 🧀💙

It isn’t every day that an adorable Maine C**n kitten comes through our doors—and this sweet girl had our entire team enamored! 🐱💕

Prissy’s kitten was seen for a lesion on her ear that would dry up and then become oozy again. Her owner was understandably concerned that it might be ringworm.

One way we screen for ringworm is with a special ultraviolet light called a Wood’s lamp. Some hairs infected with certain types of ringworm will glow a bright apple-green color under the light. We did not see any suspicious fluorescence during her examination.

We were able to send this beautiful girl home with medication to help clear up the affected area. Between those fluffy ears and her sweet personality, it is safe to say she had everyone wrapped around her tiny paw! 🐾

Poor Spot learned the hard way that disagreements between housemates can get a little too toothy! 🐶🩹

After getting into a tussle with another pet in the home, Spot arrived with several lacerations and bite wounds. She was very painful, so she received an opioid medication to keep her comfortable until we could move forward with her procedure.

We placed an IV catheter, giving our team fast and reliable access to administer sedation, pain medication, antibiotics, and any other medications Spot might need. Once she was comfortably sedated, we thoroughly clipped and cleaned each wound to remove hair, debris, and bacteria.
The wounds requiring additional treatment were repaired with sutures and drains. Bite wounds can create pockets beneath the skin where blood, fluid, and infected material may accumulate. A drain allows this material to escape instead of becoming trapped, helping reduce swelling and the risk of infection while the wound heals.

Thanks to her IV catheter, we were also able to begin IV antibiotics in the clinic. Spot went home the same day with antibiotics, pain medication, and medication to help keep her calm and rested during recovery.

We recommended that Spot go home and remind her housemate that housemates are friends—not food! 😂🐾

When Stoic stopped eating and began vomiting—even after drinking water—we knew his stomach needed some serious attention. 🐶🩺

Abdominal radiographs showed an empty stomach and a homogeneous appearance throughout the small intestines. We also performed bloodwork, which revealed that this poor guy was suffering from pancreatitis.

Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas and can cause nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, lethargy, diarrhea, and dehydration. Although many cases do not have one identifiable cause, eating fatty human foods, table scraps, or food from the trash is a common risk factor in dogs.

Stoic received an anti-nausea injection to help control his vomiting and fluids under the skin to improve his hydration. He was also sent home with additional medication for nausea and antibiotics as part of his treatment plan.

Sharing a bite from your plate may feel like a treat, but fatty table scraps can cause significant stomach upset and may trigger pancreatitis in susceptible dogs. The safest way to spoil your pet is with veterinarian-approved treats made specifically for them—belly rubs are always a safe option, too! 💙

Cypher’s recent adventure left her with a little more than she bargained for—a laceration! 🐶🩹

We sedated Cypher to keep her comfortable and allow our team to safely examine and treat the injury. The hair around the wound was thoroughly clipped, and the area was carefully cleaned. This allows us to see the full extent of the injury while removing hair, dirt, debris, and bacteria that could become trapped in the wound and increase the risk of infection.

Cypher was sent home with antibiotics to help treat or prevent infection and pain medication to keep her comfortable while she heals.
She was a wonderful patient, but we hope her next adventure involves fewer sharp objects and a lot more treats! 😂🐾

Sometimes, even the pets who never get into things can surprise us! 🐶🩻

Rex was brought to Urgent Care after he began vomiting, refusing food, and acting lethargic. Although he isn’t normally known for swallowing things he shouldn’t, his symptoms made our team suspicious that something more serious could be happening.

We obtained abdominal radiographs, which raised concern for a gastrointestinal foreign body—an object or material lodged somewhere within the stomach or intestines. A foreign body can prevent food and fluid from moving normally through the digestive tract and may lead to a dangerous obstruction.

It was recommended that Rex be transferred to our Emergency Care location for continued monitoring, supportive care, and repeat imaging. If the suspected material did not move safely through his gastrointestinal tract on its own, surgery might be necessary to remove it.

Rex’s visit is an important reminder that vomiting, loss of appetite, and lethargy should never be ignored—even when your pet isn’t a known troublemaker!

Zuchinni’s recurring UTI-like symptoms led us to an unexpected discovery. 🐶🩺

To find the cause of her discomfort, we performed a urinalysis and obtained pelvic radiographs. Unfortunately, the radiographs revealed that Zuchinni has bladder stones.

Bladder stones are mineral formations that develop inside the bladder and can cause frequent urination, straining, discomfort, accidents in the house, or blood in the urine. Some types of stones—such as certain struvite stones—may be dissolved with a prescription urinary diet. However, not every type of stone will dissolve, and factors such as the stones’ size, number, and composition help determine the best treatment.

For Zuchinni, the next recommended step is a cystotomy. This is a surgical procedure in which the bladder is opened so the stones can be removed.

In the meantime, she was sent home with antibiotics and medications to manage her pain and inflammation. We hope this sweet girl is feeling more comfortable soon! 💙

What first appeared to be a tick-related sore paw turned out to be something much bigger for sweet Bella. 🐶🐾

This beautiful Golden Retriever had been limping for several days. When her owners examined her paw, they found and removed a large tick—but when Bella continued to limp, they brought her to Urgent Care for a closer look.

After examining her leg and taking radiographs, we discovered that Bella has a CCL tear. The cranial cruciate ligament is similar to the ACL in a human knee and is one of the primary stabilizing structures in a dog’s stifle, or knee joint. It prevents the tibia, or shin bone, from sliding forward in relation to the femur, or thigh bone, while also helping control rotation within the knee. When this ligament tears, the knee becomes painful and unstable.

Bella will need a TPLO, or tibial plateau leveling osteotomy. During this surgery, the top portion of the tibia is carefully cut and repositioned to change the mechanics of the knee, creating stability without relying on the damaged ligament.

While Bella waits for surgery, she was sent home with medications to manage her pain and inflammation, along with medication to help keep her calm during the strict activity restriction needed to prevent further injury. For now, this Golden girl has been prescribed fewer zoomies and a lot more couch time! 💛
