Nestled in the rolling hills of the picturesque Ojai Valley lies a 4.4 acre hidden treasure for wayward animals. Founded in 1932, we here at the Humane Society of Ventura County have been servicing not just the animals of the Ojai Valley, but all of the animals in Ventura County. Traditionally, an animal shelter is thought of as solely a place for animals to seek refuge until a permanent home can

be found. While here at the Humane Society of Ventura County we provide this safe refuge, we also strive to remedy the greater problem of animal overpopulation, abuse and neglect. We are dedicated to promoting the health, safety, welfare, compassionate care and protection of all animals in the Ventura County through education and community outreach. All of our programs, services and outreach are funded one hundred percent by donations, memorials and sponsorships. We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States nor do we receive funding form the city, state or federal government. With the help of many volunteers and continued financial support through donations, memorials and sponsorships we will continue to provide for all animals within our county.

Update (6/12): Andy is pending adoption!

‼️ Calling all short-term foster heroes ‼️ We've got a summer squeeze heading our way, and we need your help to solve it!

Several of our amazing foster families have upcoming vacations planned, which means three wonderful pups are scheduled to return to the shelter while their foster families are away.
We're hoping to find them all new temporary "staycation" fosters to help keep them happy, comfortable, and thriving until their regular foster families return 🙏

🐾 The commitment: Just 2–10 days!
🐾 The supplies: We provide food, crates, and any medical needs
🐾 The reward: Plenty of tail wags, cuddles, and the chance to make a huge difference without a long-term commitment

Even just a few days in a loving home can help prevent the stress of returning to the shelter. If you're able to foster Juliana, Nike, or Andy for any period of time, we'd love to hear from you!

Please contact our Foster Program Specialist, Julie Velthoen, at [email protected] for more information. Together, we can keep these deserving dogs out of the shelter and enjoying the comfort of a home while their foster families are away ❤️

We need your help to find this very special bonded pair a home!

Two-month-old sibling duo Jett and Jolie were brought to our shelter as strays. After further examination, our veterinarians diagnosed Jolie with congential microphthalmia, a rare birth defect that causes blindness. Luckily, tiny but mighty Jolie has never let her condition dim her light!

Please share and help us find a loving home for these two adorable fur babies. Better yet, come adopt them yourself! They're available for adoption at the Humane Society of Ventura County, located at 402 Bryant St. in Ojai, CA 🐾

Meet Gary, a handsome 1-year-old patiently waiting for his forever home 💙

Good boy Gary has lived with other dogs before and does well in playgroups, where he’s respectful, easygoing, and takes corrections nicely from his canine friends 🐶

Gary can be a little sensitive to loud noises and busy environments, but once he knows he’s safe, his sweet personality starts to shine. He’s the kind of dog who enjoys the simple things in life: quiet companionship, leisurely walks, and spending time with his favorite people 💕

The shelter life has been a bit of a struggle for Gary, but we know he would thrive with someone ready to give him the time and space he needs to settle in and build confidence. Underneath those soft eyes is a kindhearted boy who just wants to feel loved! Stop by 402 Bryant St. in Ojai any day from 10 am to 6 pm to meet Gary 🐾

Juliana is thriving in foster care 💕 This sweet 9-month-old pup has been loving life, especially family adventures and beach trips. If there’s a car ride involved, Juliana is ready to go 🚗

She’s great with older kids, gets along with their dog in the home, loves playing, and is super smart and food-motivated. Like any young dog, Juliana is still learning a few things, but that’s part of her charm. She’s eager to please, loves being with her people, and has so much potential ✨

Her foster says she can be a little uncertain of new things at first, but once she realizes they’re safe, she’s all in. She’s also continuing to learn about living alongside the resident cat and making progress every day 🐱

With her smarts, love of treats, and eagerness to learn, we know she has a bright future ahead of her. If you’re looking for a fun, lovable pup to grow with, Juliana might just be your girl. Call the shelter at 805-646-6505 to learn more or schedule a meet-and-greet 🐶
