Let’s talk about other breeders.
Thanks for thinking this was a trash-talk session, but that’s not what we’re here for. 😂
One of the best things we’ve been fortunate enough to build at Otter Creek is relationships with other breeders who share the same goals, values, and passion for these dogs.
So, what’s the benefit of having relationships with other breeders?
• A sounding board. Someone to call when you have questions, need advice, want another opinion, or just need a little support from someone who understands the highs and lows of breeding.
• New opportunities. Access to outside bloodlines, new perspectives, and the ability to strengthen our programs while maintaining the qualities we value in our dogs.
• Preserving our lines. Building relationships that allow our dogs and their genetics to carry on through other kennels, helping preserve the work and thought that went into developing those lines.
But most importantly? Friends.
People who understand the early mornings, the sleepless nights, the hard decisions, the heartbreaks, and the excitement when everything comes together. People who celebrate your wins and help you through the tough days.
Breeding doesn’t have to be a competition where everyone else is the enemy. There is room to learn from one another, support one another, and build something better for the dogs we all care about.
At the end of the day, we’re all working toward the same thing: better dogs, stronger programs, and a future for the breeds we love.
And if you’re lucky, you gain a few lifelong friends along the way. 🤎
Good breeders don’t have to be competitors in every sense of the word. Sometimes, they’re your greatest allies.
