🚨 TEMPORARILY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC 🚨

Unfortunately, our plumbing problems have turned out to be a little more complicated than we hoped. 🔧💧

For the time being, the shelter will remain closed to the public until further notice while we work to get the issue resolved.

🐾 Our animals are safe and continuing to receive their normal daily care! However, we are unable to accommodate visitors, adoptions, or other public services while the shelter is closed.

We know this is frustrating for anyone hoping to visit, adopt, or stop by, and we truly appreciate your patience while we navigate this unexpected mess.

We’ll post an update as soon as we have more information about reopening. 💙🐾

🚨CLOSED TODAY - September 3rd 🚨

Well, today's gone a little down the drain 😅🔧

Due to unexpected plumbing issues, the shelter will be closed to the public today, September 3rd, while we work on getting everything back up and running.

🐾Our animals are still being cared for - and remain blissfully unaware of our plumbing problems - but we will not be able to accommodate visitors, adoptions, or other public services today.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. ❤

We'll keep you updated if anything changes. In the meantime, please send good vibes to our plumbing. It apparently needs them 🔧🤞🤞

Meet Knox — a fun loving, energetic girl who is ready to fill your days with adventure, playtime, and plenty of personality.

Knox is the kind of dog who makes you want to get up, grab the leash, grab the ball, and go. She has a playful spirit, a zest for life, and an energy that is impossible not to smile at.

She loves having something to do. She loves getting outside. She loves being part of the action. And if you’ve got a ball in your hand? You’ve officially got Knox’s attention.

🐾New Gate: Dog Inspected, Dog Approved🐾

Our pups have been hard at work conducting a very thorough inspection of the new gates in our play yard and we're happy to report it has officially passed quality control 🐶✅

A HUGE thank you to Alpine Fence LLC for helping make our yard safer and more secure for the dogs in our care. Having a safe outdoor space means our pups can spend their time doing the important things: stretch their legs, soak up some sunshine, and burn off those shelter dog zoomies ☀🐾

We are incredibly grateful to the businesses who help us continue making the shelter a better place for the animals who call it their temporary home. ❤

And according to Falcor - the ✨official✨ gate inspector? This gate is 10/10!

🐾🐶 HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY! 🐶🐾

From our pups to yours, Happy National Dog Day! ❤️

Today is all about celebrating the tail wags, sloppy kisses, zoomies, couch hogging, treat begging, suspiciously selective hearing, and unconditional love that dogs bring into our lives every single day. 🥹🐕

Whether your best friend is a tiny lap dog, a 90-pound “lap dog,” a distinguished senior, a chaotic puppy, or the world’s finest mixed-breed mystery - give them an extra treat, an extra snuggle, or maybe an extra-long walk today. 🦴🐾

And, of course, we’ll be giving plenty of love to the pups spending National Dog Day with us while they wait for families of their very own. 🏡❤️

❤️🐾❤️ Meet Trigger! 12 years old and still ready for his next adventure.

Trigger didn't come to us because he wasn't loved. In fact, it was quite the opposite.

When his owner was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer care for him, they had to make the incredibly difficult decision to surrender their longtime companion. Now, we're hoping we can help make sure the next chapter of Trigger's story is a good one.

And don't let that 12 years old fool you! Trigger apparently missed the memo about being a senior. 😂

This handsome hound mix is about 30lbs, outgoing, confident, and still very much young at heart. He loves to run, loves being part of the action, and is more than ready for a few more adventures.

Even better? Trigger has done well with cats, dogs, kids, AND seniors. He's an all-around good boy who has spent 12 years learning how to be somebody's companion, and he's pretty darn good at it.

We know adopting a senior isn't for everyone. Trigger may not be able to promise you another 12 years, but he can promise that whatever time he has left will be filled with love, companionship, goofy hound antics, and a whole lot of tail wags.

Trigger still has some good years ahead of him. He just needs someone to spend them with. ❤️🐾

Vera.

In Slavic languages, Vera means “faith.”

In Latin, it comes from a word meaning “true,” “real,” and “genuine.”

The perfect name for a perfect dog ♥️✨

Vera is our longest resident here at the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA. Not because she has done anything wrong. Not because she isn’t a wonderful dog.

Sometimes, a dog simply gets overlooked.

Vera is a Shepherd and Cane Corso mix, and she has the kind of look that can make people pass her by before they ever stop to find out who she really is. And that is such a shame, because there is so much more to Vera than what you see in a picture.

This girl is a trooper. She has waited. She has been patient. And she is still here, hoping that someone will finally see her for the dog she truly is. Tail always wagging and a big smile on her face!

We wish people could see her the way we do. Because pictures and a few words online can only tell you so much.

Please come meet her. Spend a little time with her. Come for a walk with her. Get to know her.

Maybe you’ll be the person who finally meets her and decides that she is the dog you can’t live without! ♥️

🐾APPLICATIONS CLOSED FOR ATHENA AND COCO🐾

Applications for Coco and Athena are officially closed today, August 19th, at 4:00PM. We've received a ton of applications, and we are so grateful to everyone willing to open their home and heart to one of these babies 🐶

Over the next few days, our staff will be carefully reviewing each application as we work to find the best possible forever home for each of these pups. If you submitted an application, keep an eye on your email and phone! We'll be reaching out as we work through the adoption process, and we'll keep everyone updated on their status.
