Here at D&M Dog Training we focus on Basic Obedience.
Basic obedience can include proper leash walking, sits, downs, stays, crate training, potty training, and recall.
We do offer some behavior modification such as jumping, counter surfing, fence aggression, etc.
If you have something specific you would like to work on, reach out to us by a message on Facebook or a text message.
We do use a variety of tools but every dog is different and we base our training off what would help the dog most.
We offer one hour in home sessions: one session, three sessions, and six sessions.
If you would like to schedule an appointment, please send us a message on Facebook or a text message.
We look forward to working with you and your beloved pet!

PEOPLE!
Please 👏 Research 👏 The 👏 Breed
Researching a breed before purchasing or rescuing a dog gives you a better understanding of what certain dog breeds need!
Herding breeds like an Australian cattle dog will herd you, they require a job! It's genetic!
Working breeds like the belgian malinois need a job or they will make their own job in destroying your furniture! They need a lot of exercise and training! It's genetic!
All dog breeds vary on what they need with training, exercise, and mental stimulation!
All breeds are different, research the breed! Don't just adopt or purchase a dog because they are cute, you're setting the dog up for failure if you don't do your research!

Did you know:
Most dogs spend about 50% of their day sleeping—about 12 hours in a 24-hour period. Puppies, large-breed dogs, and older dogs may sleep more, while small-breed dogs and working dogs may sleep less.

In addition to the 50% of their day spent sleeping, dogs will then spend another 30% of their awake hours doing what I call “loafing.” Just like with humans, loafing is when a dog is awake but really not doing much of anything—just hanging out. Typically, loafing time is spent lying down, watching the world go by, and generally enjoying being lazy.

So, that comes out to a whopping 80% of the doggy day being spent not doing much of anything at all.

Dogs sleep a lot more than people do. They sleep when their bodies say they need sleep—unlike people who have busy schedules and don’t always listen to the signals from their bodies.

Many experts also assume that lack of sleep may contribute to your dog being in a bad mood.

Did you know the best way to train your pup is to use their food! They need breakfast and dinner, why not work with it. Treats are expensive and fatty. A pups food has more nutritional value than treats. Not saying you can never use treats but why not use their food.

Training helps prevent those unwanted behaviors: chewing, getting in the garbage, counter surfing, fence fighting, barking, etc.
If pups are bored they will find something to do, that might end up being chewing your nice slippers.
Training is important for mental release.

Want to keep your pup busy for 30 minutes?!
Get a slow feeder bowl add some pumpkin, plain yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, or just their dog food; add a little water and freeze!
It's super simple and cheap to keep your pup busy!
Pumpkin is great for their digestive system, it helps with diarrhea and constipation.
Yogurt and cottage cheese is also a great prebiotic and helps with diarrhea!
You can also add some carrot pieces and some Peas to mix up the flavor!

Did you know about dog sports!?
They are great for your pups mental and physical health!
There are many events you can do with your dog such as: dock diving, fast cat, barn hunt, shutzhund, rally, agility, etc.
You don't need to do much to start these except some good basic obedience! Your pup can learn with you. They are super fun to try out!

10 Things to Consider Before Getting a Puppy:
#10 POTTY TRAINING
*Potty training is all about routine.
*To know roughly how many hours a pup can go before needing to go out, take their age in months and add one hour (a 16-week or 4-month puppy can usually go a maximum of five hours before needing to go out).
*Usually, within the first week together with your pup you will start to notice body language that indicates when it’s time to head outside.
*Your new pup will very likely p*e in your house. Do not discipline the pup for this action. This will only create an association between liquid on the floor and fear, rather than an understanding that p*eing in the house is bad. Instead, calmly take the pup outside right away.
*Reward them with attention and treats when they use the correct location.
