What does “sanctuary” actually mean? 🐾❤️

At CataHome, it doesn’t mean the same thing for every cat.

For some, CataHome is simply a safe place to land—a warm bed, a full belly, veterinary care, and time to recover.

For others, it’s a place to learn to trust. With patience and socialization, many cats who once seemed frightened or unsure are eventually ready for homes of their own.

And then there are cats who may never be comfortable in a traditional home. For them, CataHome can be exactly what the name promises: sanctuary. A safe place where they can live on their own terms, surrounded by care, comfort, and other cats. ❤️

We don’t believe success has to look the same for every cat.

Sometimes success is adoption.
Sometimes it’s a safe return.
Sometimes it’s simply watching a frightened cat finally relax.

And sometimes, CataHome becomes home.

Every story has a beginning. Ours started with Fritz. ❤️

In July 2023, before CataHome was really even up and running, a tiny kitten was found alone in the woods on an incredibly hot day.

He was dehydrated, covered in bot flies, and desperately needed help.

Someone reached out to Sandy and asked if she could take him.

We weren’t ready. We were still getting things set up. But Fritz couldn’t wait.

So the answer was yes.

He was given the care he needed, found a home of his own, and grew into the beautiful boy you see here. ❤️

Fritz became CataHome Kitty #1.

Since then, there have been many more cats. Some needed medical care. Some needed socialization. Some needed new homes. And some simply needed a safe place where they could be exactly who they are.

But it all started with one little kitten—and one yes.

Fritz will always be a very special part of the CataHome story. 🐾❤️

“Can you help this cat?” 🐾

It’s a question we hear often—and sometimes, it’s where everything begins.

A cat may be living outside, injured, hungry, scared, or simply in a situation where they can no longer stay. Someone notices. Someone cares enough to reach out. And then we figure out what comes next.

At CataHome, there isn’t one answer for every cat.

Sometimes it’s trapping and veterinary care. Sometimes it’s spay/neuter and a safe return. Sometimes it’s time, patience and socialization followed by adoption. And for some cats, CataHome becomes home. ❤️

Our goal isn’t to give every cat the same outcome. It’s to give each cat the outcome that’s right for them.

That’s what we mean by:

Compassionate care. Individualized outcomes. 🐾

Meet Journey. 🖤

For more than two years, Journey lived the life of an outdoor farm cat. He wandered to a neighboring home often enough that someone began looking out for him—feeding him twice a day, building him an insulated shelter, and making sure there was always a place he could go.

And Journey kept coming back.

There was one thing that worried his caregiver: Journey had a limp that just wouldn’t go away.

Eventually, Journey’s life changed. He was brought indoors, received veterinary care, and was diagnosed with pillow foot, an autoimmune condition that can make a cat’s paw pads swollen, sensitive and painful.

Once Journey was no longer navigating rough outdoor terrain his limp disappeared. ❤️

Today, Journey is here with us at CataHome—and we’re getting to see a different side of him.

The outdoor cat who once allowed only a little affection has turned out to be quite the social guy. Journey is friendly, engaging, and seems to genuinely enjoy when people stop by to visit with him. 🥰

And if you’d really like to make an impression?

Bring wet food. 😂 Apparently some things about Journey haven’t changed.

For cats like Journey, sanctuary means more than simply having a roof overhead. It means having the safety, care and time they need to show us who they really are.

We’re pretty happy you’re here, Journey. 🖤🐾

Compassionate care. Individualized outcomes.

We’ve been a little quiet on social media lately… but things at CataHome have been anything but quiet. 🐾❤️

There are new faces, happy endings, sanctuary projects, rescues, adoptions and—as always—lots and lots of cats.

We’ve realized we haven’t been doing a very good job of bringing all of YOU along for the journey. We’re going to change that.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more of everyday life at CataHome—the cats you help us care for, the work that happens behind the scenes, and some pretty exciting things we have coming up this fall. 🍂

Thanks for being part of CataHome. We have a lot to catch you up on. ❤️🐱
