🐱🙄 YOUR CAT ISN’T MAD AT YOU FOR GOING TO THE VET. PROBABLY.

Oh, you thought you were just putting Mr. Whiskers in his carrier for a quick trip?

😂😂😂

Suddenly, he’s disappeared into another dimension under your bed. The carrier has become a death trap. And the look he’s giving you? You’re pretty sure he’s already contacted a lawyer to discuss emancipation.

Sound familiar? 🤣

🐾 Let’s talk about making vet visits less dramatic (for everyone involved):

🐱 Leave the carrier out! Make it a normal part of your home instead of the scary box that only appears before a trip to see us.

🐱 Make it cozy! Add a familiar blanket or towel that smells like home.

🐱 Use treats and positive reinforcement! We know… cats can be bribed. Sometimes. On their terms. At their convenience. 😂

🐱 Take your time! Getting your cat comfortable with the carrier and car rides can make a BIG difference.

🐱 Ask your vet for help! If your cat gets extremely stressed, tell us! We can discuss ways to make visits easier and whether anti-anxiety medication may be appropriate.

And remember: cats are MASTERCLASS-level actors when it comes to hiding illness. Just because Fluffy looks perfectly fine while plotting your demise from the top of the refrigerator doesn't mean everything is medically fine. 😹

Routine veterinary visits matter, even for indoor cats who claim they have absolutely no reason to leave the house EVER AGAIN.

❤️ We promise we're not trying to ruin your relationship with your cat. We're just trying to keep them healthy!

Drop a comment: What does YOUR cat do when the carrier comes out?

A) Vanishes into thin air 👻
B) Becomes a furry tornado 🌪️
C) Sits in the carrier like an absolute angel (we don't believe you 😂)
D) Requires an entire search-and-rescue team 🚨

🚨🐶 STOP PUTTING WEIRD STUFF ON YOUR DOG AND CAT. PLEASE. 🐶🚨

A friendly PSA from your friends at Ocean Isle Veterinary Hospital. 😂

We need to talk. Because apparently, the internet has convinced everyone that their dog needs to be marinated, seasoned, moisturized, and treated like a gourmet recipe.

🚫 Apple c***r vinegar in your dog’s ears? NOPE. Their ears are not a salad dressing opportunity. 🥗

🚫 Coconut oil rubbed all over everything? Your dog is not a tropical smoothie ingredient. 🥥

🚫 Essential oils? Your dog is not a diffuser. 🌿

🚫 Garlic for fleas? Your dog is not an Italian entrée. 🧄🍝

🚫 Random internet remedies for itchy skin, infections, or hot spots? Your dog is not a science experiment. 🧪

🚫 Putting every “natural” product you find on Facebook onto your pet? JUST BECAUSE IT’S NATURAL DOESN’T MEAN IT’S SAFE!

Here's the thing: your dog’s skin, ears, and digestive system are NOT the same as yours. Some household ingredients can irritate their skin, damage sensitive ear tissue, or even be toxic if swallowed. And masking a problem with a home remedy can delay treatment for something that actually needs veterinary attention.

We LOVE that you want to take good care of your pets. ❤️ We really do!

But before you put something on your dog, in your dog, or convince yourself that your dog needs to be marinated in coconut oil… PLEASE ASK YOUR VET FIRST. 😂

Your dog is a dog. Not a salad. Not a candle. Not a baked potato. NOT A FOOD ITEM. 🌭🐕

Love them. Spoil them. Take 400 pictures of them sleeping in weird positions.

But maybe stop seasoning them. 😉

🐶🐱 LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR PET’S FOOD BOWL! 🍽️

We know… your dog gives you the sad puppy eyes when you eat dinner. Your cat acts like you’re personally starving them if their bowl is half empty. And TikTok has approximately 47,000 opinions on what your pet should be eating. 😂

But here’s the scoop: what goes into your pet’s bowl matters! 🥣

A veterinarian-approved diet can help support your pet’s overall health, maintain a healthy weight, protect vital organs, and manage certain medical conditions. The right food depends on your pet’s age, breed, lifestyle, and individual health needs.

🚨 A few things to remember: 🐾 Not every trendy pet food is nutritionally complete and balanced. 🐾 Grain-free, raw, boutique, or homemade diets aren’t automatically healthier. 🐾 Some pets need a prescription diet to help manage specific health conditions. 🐾 Your neighbor’s dog thriving on one food doesn’t mean it’s the best choice for YOUR pet!

And before you ask… NO, we don’t get kickbacks for recommending veterinary-approved diets. 😂💸 We recommend diets based on your pet’s individual needs, not because we’re trying to fund our next beach vacation! 🏖️ (Although, we certainly wouldn’t mind one!)

Our goal is simple: healthy pets, happy families, and fewer preventable nutrition-related problems. ❤️

Not sure if your pet’s current food is the right fit? Bring us the name of their food or a picture of the label, and let’s talk about it at your next visit!

Because your pet deserves more than a pretty bag and a convincing marketing campaign. 😉🐾

🍂 Cooler weather is here, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to take a break from parasite prevention! 🍂

At Ocean Isle Veterinary Hospital, we recommend continuing your pet’s heartworm and flea prevention year-round, even as temperatures start to drop. 🐶🐱

🦟 Heartworms: Mosquitoes can remain active during warmer days and throughout much of the year here in coastal North Carolina. Just one infected mosquito bite can put your pet at risk for heartworm disease.

🪳 Fleas: Fleas don’t disappear when the weather cools down. They can survive in protected outdoor areas and, even more importantly, thrive inside warm homes.

Staying consistent with prevention is one of the easiest ways to protect your furry family members from these common - and potentially serious - parasites. ❤️

If you have questions about the best heartworm or flea prevention for your pet, give us a call. We’re always happy to help keep your pets healthy and protected!

🐾 Medication Refill Reminder! 💊

Just a friendly reminder from all of us at Ocean Isle Veterinary Hospital: Please allow 24 - 48 hours for medication refill requests.

Once your pet’s medication is ready, we will give you a call to let you know it’s available for pickup.

📌 Please call when your pet is getting low - not when they are completely out! This gives our team enough time to process the refill and helps prevent any interruption in your pet’s medication.

Thank you for helping us keep your pets happy, healthy, and on track with their medications! ❤️🐶🐱

🚨 PET MYTH-BUSTING TIME! 🚨

We love our pets. We also love a good gated community. 😂 But unfortunately, your HOA cannot protect your pet from parasites, disease, or the occasional bad decision involving a sock.

Here are a few things we hear at the hospital that deserve a little fact-checking:

🐾 “My pet doesn’t need flea/tick prevention. We have a fenced yard.”
Fleas did not read the property line. Ticks definitely did not sign the HOA agreement. 🫠

🏡 “My pet is safe because we live in a gated community.”
Ma’am… mosquitoes can fly. 😭
Your pet’s immune system does not recognize the gate code.

🐶 “He stays inside, so he doesn’t need vaccines.”
Indoor pets still have doors, windows, vet visits, visitors, and exposure to the outside world. “Mostly indoors” is not the same thing as “living in a bubble.”

🐱 “She looks healthy, so she must be healthy!”
Pets are very good at hiding illness. Sometimes by the time they look sick, they’ve been feeling lousy for a while.

🦴 “He chewed it before and nothing happened.”
And you’ve probably driven without a seatbelt before and nothing happened. That doesn’t make it a recommended lifestyle choice. 😂

❤️ “But my pet seems fine!”
We LOVE that your pet seems fine. Our goal is to help keep them that way.

At Ocean Isle Animal Hospital, we’re here for the questions, the “is this normal?” texts, the weird lumps, the suspicious coughs, and yes… even the stories that start with, “So, I know he wasn’t supposed to eat it, but…”

Because when it comes to your pet’s health, prevention beats an emergency Google search at 2 a.m. every time. 🐾

🏖️🐾 SAND FLEAS vs. FLEAS - They’re NOT the Same Thing! 🐾🏖️

Living at the beach, you may have heard someone say, “My dog has sand fleas!” But did you know… sand fleas and the fleas that infest your pets are actually two very different things? 👀

🦀 Sand fleas are tiny beach-dwelling crustaceans (think teeny-tiny beach hoppers!) that live in sand and along the shoreline. They don’t set up shop on your dog or cat like true fleas do.

🪲 Fleas, on the other hand, are tiny parasites that LOVE our pets. They can live on dogs and cats, cause itching and irritation, and lay eggs that end up throughout the environment- including your home. 😬

So if your beach buddy comes home scratching, don't automatically blame the sand! 🌊🐶

The good news? Keeping your pets on year-round, veterinarian-recommended flea prevention is one of the best ways to keep those unwanted hitchhikers away. 💙

🏖️ Enjoy the beach.
🐾 Protect your pets.
🚫 Keep the fleas off the family!

Because beach days should come with sandy paws- not itchy ones! 🐾🌊
