🐾❤️ BEHIND THE SCENES OF RESCUE — THE PART YOU DON'T ALWAYS SEE.
Yesterday, someone left a comment on one of our posts suggesting that we weren't doing enough for these dogs, even going as far as using the word "hoarding."
I responded yesterday, but when I woke up this morning, those words were still on my mind.
Not necessarily because of that one person, but because sometimes I already feel like we're not doing enough. And I think anyone who has poured their heart into helping animals can relate to that feeling.
The truth is, people see a post, a picture, or a short video on social media, and sometimes they make assumptions without knowing the entire story.
So this morning, I decided to put together this video. Some of the footage is from just a couple of days ago, showing us working with the dogs, interacting with them, and continuing to build on everything they've learned.
And I want to share a little more about WHO these dogs actually are.
For those who have followed our journey, you know that Dogwalker Ranch was NEVER intended to be a rescue.
We've always been a boarding, daycare, grooming, and training facility.
Sure, like most animal lovers, we've helped a stray dog here and there. But taking on an entire group of rescue dogs? Learning how to find homes, work through their individual challenges, and give them another chance at life?
That was all NEW to us.
When 21 dogs suddenly became our responsibility, we had a choice. And we knew we couldn't just turn our backs on them without at least TRYING to give them a chance.
Over a year later, our entire Dogwalker Ranch family has been learning, growing, adjusting, and figuring things out together.
What works? What doesn't? What can we do differently? How can we better prepare these dogs for life outside of a kennel?
We are still learning. And we are still trying. EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Of those original 21 dogs, 15 found adoptive homes. We've experienced success, heartbreak, setbacks, and everything in between.
And I hope that everything we're learning through this experience not only helps the dogs in our care today, but also helps other dogs and people in the future.
Now, let me tell you a little about the six beautiful souls in this video. ❤️
🐾 SOPHIE — Our Sweet Mama Bear
Sophie is a beautiful brindle pit bull, approximately 5–6 years old.
I want to mention that when we give these dogs' ages, they are ESTIMATES. We don't know their exact birthdays. We do our best to estimate with help from our veterinarian.
Sophie has been a mama several times throughout her life. She's incredibly sweet, loving, loyal, and has such a wonderful temperament.
She does great with other dogs and absolutely LOVES her stuffed animals. She doesn't have many teeth left, although we don't know exactly why, but that certainly doesn't stop her from being one happy girl!
And those butt wiggles? They're the BEST. 😂❤️
One thing Sophie has struggled with is severe thunderstorm anxiety.
Over the past year, we've spent a tremendous amount of time working with her through it. There was a time when storms required much more intensive management, including a very secure crate and medication.
Today, we've made enough progress that she's been able to remain in her room during storms, although we still monitor her very closely.
That's HUGE progress for Sophie!
We do want her future family to understand that storms are still a concern for her. She would benefit from a very secure, heavy-duty crate, such as a Ruff Land-style kennel, and someone who understands anxiety and is willing to continue working with her.
Outside of that, Sophie is just an incredibly happy, affectionate girl who deserves a family to love.
🐾 CRYPTO — Our Cancer Survivor!
Crypto is a cattle dog mix, approximately 6 years old.
And this boy has quite the story!
Crypto recently overcame cancer, thanks in part to the wonderful people at Paddock Park who helped us get him the care and surgery he needed.
Since then, he has been THRIVING! ❤️
Crypto has spent time socializing with female dogs and has done extremely well. He loves to run, play, and enjoy their company.
He's actually very respectful during these interactions, and I've noticed that he sometimes seems more relaxed when he has a female dog around.
But I also believe he could be perfectly happy as someone's only dog.
Crypto is a wonderful boy who has already overcome so much. Now he deserves the opportunity to enjoy the rest of his life with a family of his own.
🐾 LAINEY — Our Sweet, Curious Girl
Lainey is such a sweetheart!
She's naturally submissive, curious, and absolutely loves people and attention.
She enjoys running around, playing, and being involved in whatever you're doing.
But here's what I love about Lainey: she also knows how to RELAX! 😂
She'll get out there, play, have her fun, and then she's perfectly content to curl up and take a nice long nap.
She really has that beautiful combination of being playful and affectionate without needing to be on the go every second of the day.
She's just a really sweet girl with so much love to offer.
🐾 BROSKI — Our Energetic, Happy Boy!
Broski is a handsome red-nose pit bull, approximately 3 years old.
Now THIS boy has some energy! 😂
Broski absolutely loves life, and sometimes his excitement gets the best of him.
One of the things we've been consistently working on is teaching him not to jump up when he's excited to see somebody.
And he's made some really great progress!
He's also done extremely well socializing with female dogs.
Broski would love a family who enjoys being active, playing, and continuing to work with him on his manners.
He's a happy boy with a big personality who just needs someone willing to give him that chance.
🐾 KING BRADY — Our Gentle Gentleman
King Brady is a beautiful brindle pit bull, approximately 3 years old.
I'm not even going to lie. King Brady has become one of my personal favorites. ❤️
There's just something about this boy!
He's incredibly engaged when you're working with him. He pays attention to his handler, enjoys interaction, and genuinely seems to love that one-on-one attention.
King has also done well socializing with female dogs.
And while he loves people in general, I have to laugh because this boy definitely seems to have a soft spot for the ladies! 😂
He does well with everyone, but he really gravitates toward women. I personally think he'd do wonderfully with a younger female handler who enjoys spending time with him and continuing to build that bond.
One of my favorite things about King is how gently he'll reach his paw toward me through the gate when he wants attention.
He's just a COOL dude with a really sweet personality.
Someone is going to be very lucky to call this boy theirs. ❤️
🐾 RICO — Our Sweet White Pittie
Rico is a handsome white pit bull mix, approximately 3 years old.
Rico has not yet been directly socialized with other dogs in our care, so I don't want to make assumptions about how he would do living with another dog.
But what I CAN tell you is that Rico absolutely LOVES his humans.
He enjoys attention, interaction, and spending time with people.
He's also incredibly gentle when taking treats, something we've really noticed about these pups.
Rico has such a sweet side to him, and I would love nothing more than to see him find someone who makes him part of their everyday life.
He deserves that opportunity just as much as every other dog here.
❤️ ALL SIX OF THESE DOGS ARE SPAYED OR NEUTERED AND UP TO DATE ON THEIR VACCINATIONS.
And I want everyone to understand something.
These descriptions aren't meant to make these dogs sound perfect. They're meant to help you get to KNOW them.
They each have their own personalities, strengths, challenges, and things we're still working on.
We don't know everything about their lives before they came to us. We don't know every situation they'll encounter in a home.
But we DO know the dogs we've gotten to know over this past year. We know the progress they've made. And we know how much love they have to give.
And THAT is what we've been working toward.
We aren't professional rescue people who had all the answers when this started. We're a family and a team who found ourselves in a situation we never expected, and instead of walking away, we decided to try.
Have we made mistakes? I'm sure we have.
Are there things we could do better? Absolutely.
But please don't mistake the fact that these dogs are still here for a lack of effort, love, or dedication.
Behind every one of these dogs is a team of people who feed them, clean up after them, love on them, work with them, celebrate their progress, and keep showing up for them day after day.
And to every single person who has supported us, shared our posts, adopted, donated, encouraged us, or simply sent a kind word when we needed it most, THANK YOU.
You have no idea how much that means.
I think sometimes social media makes it really easy to criticize what someone else is doing without ever seeing what happens when the cameras are off.
And I hope this video gives you a little glimpse of that.
We're not asking anyone to pretend we're perfect. We're asking people to recognize that we're trying, we're learning, and we're doing this because these dogs matter to us.
I would rather spend my time learning how to do better for these dogs than spend it trying to prove to strangers that I care about them.
Because at the end of the day, this isn't about me, and it isn't about Facebook comments.
It's about Sophie, Crypto, Lainey, Broski, King Brady, and Rico.
Six dogs who deserve more than a kennel to call home.
Six dogs who deserve somebody to choose THEM. ❤️
