🦍 At the Smithsonian National Zoo, hearts around the world melted when 15-year-old gorilla Calaya gave birth to her first baby — a healthy little boy named Moke, meaning “small one.”
In the quiet evening of April 15, caregivers watched in awe as Calaya, exhausted but radiant, gently lifted her newborn and held him close. Her large, careful hands cradled him, her eyes soft with devotion — a mother’s love expressed in its purest form. 💚
For hours, she kissed, rocked, and protected Moke, never once letting go. This wasn’t just the zoo’s first gorilla birth in nine years — it was a symbol of hope for an endangered species and a universal reminder that the bond between mother and child transcends every barrier. 🌍✨
