Just the kitchen counter that started it all.

Heal Shield started with a need Melanie saw firsthand.

After years of working alongside sport horse veterinarians, she knew there had to be a better way to protect wounds and help prevent summer sores without restricting the horse’s natural movement.

So, at her kitchen counter, she created the first Fly Go Boot prototype.

That simple idea became Heal Shield, and the beginning of a growing line of products designed with the horse, their movement, and healing in mind.

Cooler mornings can make it feel like fly season is winding down, but flies can remain active well into fall, especially during warm afternoons.

And when your horse has a healing wound? Even a few flies can mean irritation, contamination, stomping, rubbing, and a horse that simply won’t leave the area alone.

As temperatures change:
• Keep checking wounds daily
• Don’t put the fly spray away just yet
• Watch for increased rubbing or stomping
• Keep wound protection clean and dry
• Continue physical protection when flies are still active

Fall wound care is often less about starting something new and more about not stopping too soon.

It’s about time we talk more about these nifty little pads. The No pressure pad is one of our favorites. It is designed to alleviate pressure over wounds, decreases friction and irritation, allowing medications to stay on the wound and not on the bandage.
