Subchondral cyst-like lesions in the medial femoral condyle alter how load is distributed within the stifle and can create persistent joint stress over time. Management is focused on improving the joint environment and supporting how the surrounding cartilage and bone respond under load. Intra articular therapies such as stanozolol are used to modulate inflammation and support joint function, allowing the stifle to better tolerate movement and progression through rehabilitation.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used as an adjunct to support complex cases where tissue oxygenation limits recovery. By increasing dissolved oxygen at the cellular level, it can enhance how tissues respond in conditions such as laminitis, pulmonary disease, thermal injury, and severe soft tissue inflammation. It is not a standalone treatment, but a way to improve the effectiveness of primary therapies in compromised environments.

Laser therapy increases cellular ATP production, which provides the energy required for tissue repair. It also enhances microcirculation, improving oxygen and nutrient delivery to the wound. That combination supports more efficient healing and better quality tissue formation.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases oxygen delivery beyond what circulation alone can provide. By raising oxygen tension at the tissue level, it supports cellular repair, improves angiogenesis, and enhances the body’s ability to manage compromised or poorly perfused areas. In complex injuries, optimizing oxygen availability is often what allows healing to progress.

Shockwave is used to initiate early pain modulation and stimulate a biological response within tendon and ligament tissue. With repeated sessions, the focus shifts toward improving fiber organization and tissue quality. Progress is monitored through follow up imaging to determine how the tissue is remodeling and to guide the next phase of treatment.

Stifle and hock effusion often reflect a joint response rather than a single focal lesion. Identifying which compartments are involved helps determine load distribution and how multiple joints are interacting. When imaging aligns with the clinical exam, it allows treatment to be directed at the joints actually driving the lameness, not just the most obvious one.

Ozone therapy supports tissue recovery by reducing oxidative stress and controlling inflammation while creating an environment that is less favorable for bacterial and fungal growth. Used alongside standard treatments, it helps manage infection and improve how tissue responds during healing.

We are fortunate to have a team that continues to raise the standard through collaboration, continual education, and commitment to the horse.

From diagnostics and surgery to rehabilitation and recovery, every case requires communication, trust, and a group willing to keep learning as equine medicine continues to evolve.

The priority has always been the same, giving every horse the best opportunity to recover, perform, and move comfortably.

Joint injections are used to control the environment inside the joint before damage progresses.
Inflammation within the joint leads to cartilage breakdown and reduced performance over time. Targeted intra articular therapies allow us to manage that inflammation directly, improve lubrication, and support joint function based on the specific pathology identified on diagnostics.
The goal is not temporary relief, it is preserving the joint for long term use.

Laser therapy influences cellular activity during wound healing. It enhances mitochondrial function, improving energy availability for cells responsible for repair. This supports more organized tissue formation, reduces excessive inflammation, and helps wounds progress through the healing phases more efficiently.
