Eight years ago today, I officially became a The Masterson Method, Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork Certified Practitioner! 🎉🐴

I know I’ve shared these photos from my Certification Completion Course before, but I love looking back and sharing them again! At the time, I had no idea how far this journey would take me… both figuratively AND literally!

The places I’ve traveled, the horses I’ve learned from, and the wonderful people I’ve met along the way! How cool is it that I still get to work alongside some of the MMCPs in these photos, and that three of us from this class later became instructors!

I’m still learning, still growing, and so grateful for this incredible journey!

Happy 8-year anniversary to me! 🥳🐴❤️

The horse is a social animal and social contact is essential for its welfare.

If a horse is stabled, it helps a lot to see other horses but, more importantly, touch and groom them as well. The global consciousness of the importance of the social needs of horses is increasing.

From mounted police units to racing, very slowly people are beginning to realise that when horses can touch and groom each other, even across a stable wall, there are positive welfare and health benefits for the horse, and benefits for trainers because such horses are more mentally secure and more tractable.

If it simply is not possible to have another horse as a companion, then as a last resort even another species such as a sheep may possibly help, however there are very strong limitations in cross-species housing because of species-specific aspects of the animal’s evolved ethogram.

Isolation is very bad for horses and also contributes to both oral and locomotory stereotypies such as crib-biting and fence-walking.

What a fantastic week teaching The Masterson Method, Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork Advanced 5-Day Course! 🐴

These students came ready to learn, worked incredibly hard, and made wonderful progress throughout the week! It was so rewarding to watch their skills, confidence, and understanding of the horses grow each day. We shared lots of learning, laughter, and some pretty special moments with the horses!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who generously allowed their horses to participate. We couldn’t do this without you and your wonderful horses!

And a very special thank you to our amazing host, Helios Equestrian Center! You did a fabulous job organizing and coordinating all the horses and helping everything run so smoothly. Your hard work and hospitality were truly appreciated!

So proud of this group and all they accomplished! ❤️🐴
