We know life is busy, so at Airport Road Animal Clinic, we give you several convenient ways to get your pet on the schedule.

You can book an appointment by texting us, calling the clinic, emailing us, or using our OTTO app. You can download OTTO through our website, or simply follow the link included in your appointment reminder texts.

✨ Booking online? One important tip:
Be sure to select the correct veterinarian/provider you would like to see. Once selected, OTTO will show you that provider’s current available appointment openings.

Have a specific doctor you love seeing? Make sure their name is selected before choosing your appointment time. ❤️

🇺🇸 Labor Day Closure Reminder

Airport Road Animal Clinic will be closed Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.

Please plan ahead for any medication refills, prescription diets, or other needs before the holiday weekend. ❤️🐾

We’ll reopen with normal business hours on Tuesday, September 8th.

🍂🐾 It’s officially the “-BER” months!

September is here, which means we’re heading into the season of cooler mornings, fall routines, football weekends, pumpkin everything… and eventually the holidays. 🤎

Of course, in Florida, “fall” may still feel suspiciously like summer for a while. 😂☀️

As schedules get busier, don’t forget to keep your pets’ wellness visits, preventions, medications, and routine care on the calendar too.

🐾 A New Week, A New Routine

As summer winds down and school-year routines settle in, don’t forget that our pets notice the change too. ❤️

Changes in schedules can sometimes lead to:
• Increased anxiety or clinginess
• Changes in appetite
• More barking, pacing, or destructive behavior
• Bathroom accidents
• Extra sleeping or hiding

A little consistency can go a long way. Keep meals, walks, playtime, and medications on a predictable schedule whenever possible—and make sure your pet still gets plenty of one-on-one time with you.

And if something just seems “off,” give us a call. Sometimes a behavior change is their first way of telling us they don’t feel well.

A Little Scheduling Update from Dr. Pruitt ❤️🐾

Dr. Pruitt will be taking a short medical leave for an elective procedure and will be out of the office September 17 until October 5th.

When she returns, she’ll be easing back into work on a temporarily adjusted schedule while she recovers. During this time, we may recommend drop-off appointments for some of her patients. This allows our team to provide the extra hands and physical support needed for handling, lifting, and positioning your pets, while Dr. Pruitt continues to oversee their medical care.

One of the things we’re especially grateful for at ARAC is our strong team of women veterinarians. We aren’t just colleagues—we’re friends, and we truly work as a team. ❤️ While Dr. Pruitt is away, the rest of our doctors will be here to care for her patients and will keep her updated on care and progress along the way.

If you’d like your pet to see Dr. Pruitt before her leave, we recommend scheduling early.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and support while we help take care of the doctor who takes such wonderful care of your pets. 🐾

🪱 Hookworms Are Getting Harder to Treat — Especially Here in Florida

Hookworms are already one of the most common intestinal parasites we see in dogs, but there’s an added concern: drug-resistant hookworms are becoming increasingly recognized in the Southeast, including Florida.

Some infections may no longer respond completely to the dewormers we’ve traditionally relied on. That means a dog can be treated appropriately and still continue shedding hookworm eggs.

Signs can include:
• Diarrhea or soft stool
• Blood in the stool
• Weight loss or poor growth
• Anemia or pale gums
• Or sometimes no obvious symptoms at all

At ARAC, persistent hookworm infections may require repeat f***l testing, additional treatment, and sometimes a f***l egg count reduction test to determine whether the parasite is responding appropriately.

The other important piece? Prevent reinfection. Pick up stool promptly, keep pets on consistent parasite prevention, and remember that hookworm larvae can survive in warm, moist soil — something Florida has plenty of.

If your dog keeps testing positive for hookworms despite treatment, it doesn’t necessarily mean you did anything wrong. It may be time to investigate resistance or reinfection and build a more targeted plan. 🐾
