🦃 When Your Turkeys Think They Own the Roof…

You know you live at Double H Farm & Rescue when you check on the animals and find yourself asking:

“Why are there TURKEYS on my barn roof?”

Not near the barn.
Not under the barn.
Not even inside the barn where perfectly normal turkeys would be.

ON. TOP. OF. THE. BARN.

And judging by the looks on their faces, they aren't lost. They are pleased with themselves.

There they sat, perched on the peak like two feathered HOA presidents conducting the evening inspection.

I imagine the conversation went like this:

🦃 #1: “Well, what do you think?”

🦃 #2: “Excellent view. Good breeze. Nobody can sneak up on us.”

🦃 #1: “And the humans?”

🦃 #2: “They're confused. I consider that a bonus.”

From their new penthouse suite, they can oversee the entire operation—horses, goats, donkeys, sheep, humans, and most importantly, the location of the feed buckets.
We're pretty sure they believe they have officially been promoted.

No longer are they simply turkeys. They are now:

Roof Supervisors.
Farm Security.
Weather Forecasters.
Professional Lookouts.
And apparently, terrible examples of following the rules. 😂

Of course, the biggest question remains…

How do you explain to a turkey that the roof is NOT a designated roost? You don't.

At Double H Farm & Rescue, we've learned an important rule:

If you give a turkey an inch, they'll take a barn roof. 🦃😂

And just when we think we've seen it all around here, the animals remind us:

“Hold my feed bucket. We've got an idea.”

That's just another day at Double H Farm & Rescue—where the animals make the rules, the humans try to keep up, and apparently the turkeys have claimed the penthouse. ❤️

This is Cain and Abel. Of course, Cain is the bigger of the two so he thinks he's boss. 🤨 We've already had the discussion about behavior and expectations here at the farm....
Cain has been put on notice. 😂

They sure have plenty to say!

From all of us at Double H Farm & Rescue… THANK YOU. ❤️

We don’t even know where to begin.

When we made that post asking for help, we honestly weren’t sure what would happen. Asking for donations is never easy for us. We would much rather be on the other side of the post — sharing happy updates, rescue stories, goofy animal pictures, and happily showing you full feed bins.

But you showed up. You REALLY showed up. ❤️

Donations came in. Posts were shared. Messages were sent. Prayers were lifted. And people reached out simply to say, “We’ve got you.”

Those words mean more than you will ever know.

Because behind every $5, $10, $20, $200 or whatever someone was able to give is a person who chose to believe in what we are doing. Someone who decided that these animals mattered. Someone who helped us carry a piece of the load when it felt especially heavy.

And that is what a village does.

You helped fill empty spaces — in our feed room, in our supply cabinet, and most importantly, in our hearts. ❤️

We still have plenty of work ahead of us, because rescue never slows down. There will always be another bale of hay, another vet bill, another bottle of supplements, another animal who needs us.

But today, we’re choosing to pause and simply say:

THANK YOU.

Thank you for believing in Double H Farm and Rescue.
Thank you for believing in the animals.
Thank you for sharing our posts.
Thank you for donating.
Thank you for praying.
Thank you for encouraging us when we needed it most.

And thank you for reminding us that we are not doing this alone.

From our family to yours, and from every four-legged, furry, feathered, and long-eared resident at Double H…

THANK YOU for being our village. ❤️🐴🐐🫏

We are humbled. We are grateful. And we are blessed beyond words.

God bless every single one of you who helped us carry the load. 🙏🏻❤️

**A little update from the Double H Farm & Rescue crew… ❤️**

Yesterday, we did something that never comes easily to us — we asked for help.

We admitted we can’t carry this alone right now, and asked you to help us keep the animals cared for and the shelves stocked with medical supplies.

And once again, **you have begun showing us why we call you our village.** ❤️

Every donation, every share, every message, and every prayer means more to us than you know. Whether you gave $5, $10, $20, or more, or simply shared our post, **you helped move the needle.**

We’re not out of the woods yet and We are still very low on feed, supplements, and there are a lot of hungry mouths depending on us every single day.

There are no days off at a livestock rescue. The animals still need breakfast when the bank account is low. They still need medications when donations are slow. And they still look at us every morning expecting us to keep our promise.

So we’re continuing to humbly ask for your help.

**If you meant to donate yesterday but didn’t get around to it, today is a great day.** ❤️

If you already donated, maybe share this post with someone who might be willing to help.

We don't need one person to save the day.
**We need our village to each carry a little bit of the load.**

And to everyone who has already helped us carry it — thank you. From the bottom of our hearts. And from the very full hearts (and soon-to-be-full bellies) of our animals. 🐐🐴🫏

It’s humbling to ask for help. But when you run a livestock rescue, you quickly learn one thing: you cannot do it alone. It takes a village.

It’s been a while since we’ve had to make an urgent ask like this, but Double H Farm & Rescue needs our village right now.

We are out of medical supplies, running low on much-needed supplements, very low on feed, and our rescue bank account is empty. We have tried our best to carry the load ourselves, but after having to withdraw our fundraiser, we simply can’t do it alone anymore.

Our animals don’t understand budgets, bank accounts, or unexpected expenses. They just know that when they’re hungry, they need to eat. When they’re hurting, they need care. And when they were given a second chance, they were counting on us to keep our promise to them.

So today, we’re asking our village to help us carry the load.

If just 20 people donated $10, that’s $200 — enough to help us get feed and supplies to make it through the next couple of weeks. If you can give more, wonderful. If $10 is all you can spare, please know that it matters. And if you can’t donate, sharing this post is a tremendous help, too.

Thank you for loving them, believing in what we do, and standing beside Double H Farm & Rescue. We are incredibly grateful for every prayer, every share, and every dollar. 🙏🏻

Sometimes being their voice means humbling ourselves enough to ask for help. Today, we’re asking.
