Today we said goodbye to our Bobo. š
For 13 wonderful years, Bobo was so much more than our dog. He was our first dog, and the dog who started it all for Hornish Goldens.
He also grew up right alongside our boys. When they were outside playing in the yard, Bobo was never far away. He would stay right there with them, watching over them and simply being part of their childhood. So many of our family memories over the last 13 years have Bobo somewhere in them.
As hard as it is to lose him, I am incredibly thankful for the way he left us. Bobo ate his breakfast this morning. He was happy, mobile, and himself right up until the end. He didnāt suffer. His old heart simply gave out, and for that I am so grateful. He spared me from having to make the decision I always dreaded having to make.
Bobo leaves behind quite a legacy. He sired many puppies over the years and passed along so many of the qualities we still value in our Goldens todayāhealth, intelligence, wonderful temperament, that Golden willingness to please, and an incredible ease of training. Pieces of Bobo live on in generations of dogs and in families all over who probably donāt even realize that a little bit of what they love about their Golden started with him.
At home, though, he was simply Boboāour lovable, faithful companion and, without question, the cleanest male dog we have ever owned. ā¤ļø He was just an all-around good dog.
Thirteen years is a long life, but somehow it will never feel long enough.
It hurts tremendously to see him go, but more than anything, I am thankful. Thankful for 13 years. Thankful for the years he spent growing up with our boys. Thankful for everything he gave us and our program. Thankful he was happy until his last day. And especially thankful that when it was his time, he went peacefully on his own terms.
Rest easy, Bobo. You were the beginning of something pretty special, and your legacy will live on for generations. š¾ā¤ļø
