Today, I celebrate Juneteenth. A day that honors freedom, resilience, and the continued pursuit of equality.

As a Puerto Rican woman born and raised in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, I’m grateful for the diverse communities, stories, and cultures that enrich our lives. As a dog trainer, I see every day how trust, patience, and understanding help build stronger bonds and those values matter far beyond the leash.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and joyful Juneteenth. ❤️🖤💚

Where foundation training meets follow-through and structure, success happens!

Many dogs entering rescue have little to no training and few manners. They often need guidance, consistency, and opportunities to learn how to be successful companions.

Through our Freedom Tails partnership, rescue dogs receive individualized attention and training that helps build solid foundations for life in their forever homes.

We recently heard from the adopter of Nebula (now Cooper), and his story is a perfect example of what these partnerships can achieve.

When I first took Nebula to prison, he was full of energy and lacked focus. He entered the program just as our training partner, All Fur Them began a special training initiative with our inmate handlers.

Through dedication, structure, and teamwork, Nebula not only completed the program but also earned his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. Today, he's a well-mannered and confident member of his community.

Here's what his adopter had to say:

"We had him at Home Depot and Lowe's, and he doesn't even pay attention to people or other dogs. He was laying next to me while I was looking at something on a shelf when a lady with two Chihuahuas walked within three feet of him. He simply turned his head, looked at them, and stayed relaxed. She even commented on how well-behaved he was."

This is why partnerships matter.

Timber Tails K9 Rescue could not accomplish this alone. Through collaboration, shared goals, and focused efforts, we're not only changing the lives of dogs—we're helping build stronger communities, one success story at a time.

At Timber Tails K9 Rescue, our primary mission is to help dogs in our local shelters and do everything we can to prevent unnecessary euthanasia. The heartbreaking reality is that we cannot save every dog. We simply do not have enough foster homes, space, funding, or resources to take in every animal that needs help.

While we are committed to helping as many dogs as possible, we are not a sanctuary. We have limited capacity, especially for dogs requiring long-term rehabilitation, medical care, or behavioral support. We cannot hold dogs indefinitely simply because there is nowhere else for them to go.

That said, we believe there are areas where our community and local systems can improve.

When dogs are given away for free without being:
• Vet checked
• Vaccinated
• Spayed or neutered
• Fully and transparently assessed for behavior
• Meeting local licensing requirements, including proof of rabies vaccination

it can contribute to the very issues we are all trying to solve.

As a community, we have an opportunity to learn, grow, and do better together.

We wish we had a foster home available for every dog that entered our local shelters. We wish we could say “yes” every time the phone rings. Unfortunately, that is not the reality we face today.

What we can promise is this: we will continue advocating for dogs, working with local shelters and city leaders to improve the system, and doing everything within our capacity to save lives.

Most importantly, we will continue asking for help.

If you want to be part of the solution, please consider fostering, volunteering, donating, or advocating for responsible pet ownership. Every foster home, every volunteer hour, and every community member who steps up makes a difference.

Together, we can create better outcomes for the dogs who depend on us.

Pictured are a few recent puppies (some still adoptable) that went through our Last Sprouts Program. A community member reached out and instead of giving away free puppies, asked for help. Mom AND dad will be altered at zero cost to the owners and brought up to date on vaccines. Puppies will be adopted out, vetted, spayed/neutered, vaccinated! THIS is how change is made.

Meet Neptune, aka Bologna! 🐾

Bologna is the last of a litter of 11 puppies still waiting for his forever family.

After spending some time in "prison" he's officially ready for couch cuddles and adventures with his very own people.

We had high hopes that he'd find his match at the adoption event, but it just wasn't his day. It's tough to compete when you're surrounded by tiny little puppies stealing all the attention!

Now a little over 4 months old, Bologna is growing into a handsome, fun-loving pup with so much love to give. He's ready to be your lap dog during quiet moments and your adventure buddy when it's time to explore.

If you're looking for a loyal best friend who will stick by your side through every journey, Bologna is waiting to meet you. ❤️

🧬 The DNA results are finally in! 🧬

We now know what Nate and his siblings are made of, and the results were definitely worth the wait!

Did you guess correctly on the Aberdeen litter of 11 puppies?

One thing we suspected has now been confirmed—this litter is related to our 3 sisters! They share approximately 20% DNA, making them more like cousins than siblings. It's always fascinating to see how these family connections come together.

And speaking of this amazing litter, Nate's brother, Bologna (aka Neptune), is the last puppy from the group still looking for his forever home! ❤️ His photo will be in the comments.
