Oakland Animal Services (OAS) is Oakland's only open admissions shelter, and takes in about 6,000 animals annually. Friends of OAS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to supporting the agency by raising funds to pro

vide medical care, lab work, enrichment and beds for the shelter's animals. Friends of OAS also funds the foster program, adoptions program, facility improvements, animal transports, and staff training. https://friendsofoas.org/

In 2020, OAS joined the Human Animal Support Services (HASS) coalition as a Tier 1 pilot shelter. HASS promotes community collaboration to reimagine the role of animal services, transforming the sheltering system through innovative programs and services. The big day is finally here: It’s California Adopt-a-Pet Day!

Today only, OAS has special extended adoption hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and adoption fees are waived!

These cuties are just a few of our 40+ kittens hoping to find their furever homes today. Kittens not your jam? No worries—we have some wonderful young adult and adult cats, and a few super-sweet senior kitties, too!

To see all of our adoptable pets, click on “Adopt” in our bio. Then make plans to stop by and find your new best friend(s) at Oakland Animal Services!

Note: Kittens do best with a buddy, so solo kittens Joshua, Pax, and Sesame are looking for homes with young resident cats. The other kittens shown here can only be adopted with a littermate.

200 shelters across California will be participating and helping you find your next new best friend. Join us from 11am to 5pm for special extended Adoption Hours this Saturday and adopt a pet from OAS.

Adoption fees are waived for all species (licensing fee may apply).

Lowry is 10 years old, 86 pounds of calm and gentle. Volunteers call him the sweet old man of the shelter.

He's had a few chapters before this one but his tail keeps wagging.

He needs a quiet, patient home. Good with other dogs, possibly okay with kids over 12.

Come meet him this week at Oakland Animal Services.

Named after the Greek goddess of motherhood, Demeter has certainly earned her title after raising her kittens!

This 2-year-old orange-and-white tabby is friendly, affectionate, and always ready to say hello with a cheek rub or two. She’s a champion biscuit maker and has a great purr to match.

With her easygoing personality and sweet nature, Demeter can’t wait to meet you. This girl is ready to retire from motherhood and enjoy the pampered life she deserves!

Stop by for an introduction Thursday from noon to 6:30 p.m. or Friday through Sunday from 12-3!
