Our mission is cats. Together, we save the lives of at-risk cats, find them loving homes, and advocate for a future where every cat is valued. Cat Town made history by opening America’s first cat cafe in 2014, right here in Oakland. In doing so, we created a new platform to meet elderly, frightened, stressed, sick, and injured cats — a place where adopters could meet them at their best: stress-fre

e, healthy, and ready for love. About half of our cats reside at our Adoption Center until they get adopted. The rest of our cats live in foster homes around the East Bay or in our kitten adoption space at Pet Food Express in Rockridge. Our approach to cat rescue proves these overlooked cats are highly adoptable, and has been shared with other rescues across the country, helping transform what's possible for vulnerable cats. Snowball and Nacho are two devoted companions with a shared philosophy: life is better with good food, plenty of playtime, and a favorite person nearby. Curious if you could be their favorite person? Come meet Snowball and Nacho during their limited engagement at our Adoption Center from September 4–11!

Snowball (7yo) can be cautious at first, but once he feels comfortable, he’s all about cuddles. He’ll flop over for pets, curl up in your lap for hours, and enthusiastically chase almost anything that can be batted across the floor. He’s also an expert napper who’s happy to follow your routine, although he’ll make sure you know when it’s time to prepare his next meal.

Nacho (9yo) is the social butterfly of the pair. This confident orange boy greets guests, follows his favorite person from room to room, and curls up beside them whenever it’s time to relax. He’s playful, chatty, and especially enthusiastic about food — but his favorite thing is simply being included in whatever his person is doing.

Both boys have some manageable medical needs. Nacho uses an inhaler for asthma and takes medication and a prescription diet for allergies, while Snowball has early signs of asthma and also eats a special diet for allergies. They handle their care well and will need an adopter committed to keeping them feeling their best.

Snowball and Nacho will thrive together in a calm, indoor-only home with someone who appreciates affectionate cats with big personalities — and doesn’t mind having two very enthusiastic supervisors at mealtime.

Last December, Cauliflower arrived at Fremont Animal Shelter as an injured stray, scared and shut down. Once she moved into a quiet Cat Town foster home, another side of her quickly emerged: a playful girl who loved to flop, make air biscuits, burrow under blankets, and cuddle.

Her foster shared that although Cauliflower could be timid with strangers and sensitive to sudden sounds or movements, she recovered quickly once she felt safe. Before long, she was back to being a sweetie pie who “loves pets and is happiest when lying on your lap.”

With patience, care, and space to decompress, Cauliflower made incredible progress while she waited for her next chapter to begin. Recently, that wait came to an end. Cauliflower found her new family, and her adopters shared: “She’s integrating well into our home. We are so happy to have her!”

Success stories like hers would not be possible without the support of our community. From the local rescue organizations we collaborate with to our compassionate fosters, dedicated volunteers, and generous donors, each plays a part in giving injured and fearful cats the chance to feel safe, show who they truly are, and find loving homes.

Denver and Cordelia quickly decided they belonged together forever, and we have to agree. The two had an immediate connection, and now spend their days cuddling, grooming, and quietly looking after one another.

Denver is a goofy Siamese with a tiny squeak of a meow. He loves lounging on your chest and following Cordelia around. Cordelia is the capable “big sister” of the pair — a floofy tuxedo who gives nose kisses, naps with her chin resting in your hand, and sleeps belly-up with her tongue peeking out. This pair loves to play, often engaging in friendly wrestling matches.

Both cats eat special diets and take daily medication easily, and Cordelia also receives eye drops twice a day. Their foster says, “She is quite used to taking her eye drops and will sit in your lap for them. She’s the easiest cat I’ve ever medicated.”

Finn and Gigi were born with serious eye conditions that required the kind of care that Cat Town’s Emergency Medical Fund, and this community, make possible.

These sweet siblings have little or no functional eye tissue, and when they arrived in our care, their eyes persistently leaked discharge and showed signs of infection. With our Emergency Medical Fund, we were able to cover Finn and Gigi’s eye enucleation procedures, which, thanks to the generosity of our veterinary partners, were significantly more affordable than originally expected. We're so grateful for their support in helping stretch your donations as far as possible. Any additional funds raised will go directly toward medical care for other cats in need!

Because of our amazing community, we were able to give Finn and Gigi the crucial care they needed, along with their best chance at finding a loving home. These spirited blind cats have fully recovered from their procedures and have already set out on their next big adventure — they were recently adopted and went home together!

Their adopter shared, “I have had these wonderful souls with me for a week now, and I cannot imagine my life without them. They have already brought me so much peace and joy… I am so very grateful to the wonderful people at Cat Town for bringing them into my life.”

At 12 years old, Cece knows exactly what she wants: quality time with her favorite people, plenty of affection, and your undivided attention. This tortie lovebug will happily settle onto your chest, gaze directly into your eyes, and remind you with a little meow that your phone or laptop really can wait.

Cece is happiest wherever you are. She’ll greet you, follow you around the house, and lounge beside you — or preferably on your chest. Her foster describes her as “a lover through and through.”

As a senior, Cece has a couple of health needs to monitor. She has mild heart disease that currently requires no medication, diet changes, or exercise restrictions, but she’ll need annual check-ins with a veterinary cardiologist.

Cece’s wholehearted companionship makes it all too easy to understand that in her opinion, you’re the most important being in the world. She may prefer to be your one and only cat, and would love a calm, indoor-only home with someone ready to give as much affection as she does.

Your support helps seniors like Bamboo, who is enjoying a calm foster home and medication that keeps him comfortable in his golden years.

It helps timid cats like Thomas, who gets antibiotics for his irritated eyes, and the space to feel better and gain the confidence to welcome pets and affection.
