And another older video chiseled free from the mountain of old projects. This time we have Revi. It’s crazy to watch this and see just how little he was when he first got here. 🥺 he’s grown up more than I realized these last couple of months.

This video was taken around a week or two after he got here. Just before this section we had started leading on the line rather than just following me around. In that same session he was introduced to disengaging the hind quarters and backing out of my space.

At the end of the lesson he got to leave the working pens for the first time and went out into the large paneled area we had set up for him. He used his turn out time wisely by running around like a living ping pong ball. 😂 he had fun and only shaved a couple of years off my life in the process.

Sometimes even I’m impressed by how long a video lives on my phone before I either post it or delete it. 😂 take this one of Kali for example. This was from way back when she first got here. I don’t even remember taking this one, yet here it is.

I feel like loading materials for a brand new project into my currently unfinished project, kinda just sums up my entire life a little too well. 😅

The first set of supplies was offloaded at home next to the materials for yet another unfinished project. While the second load was stored on top of a 4th project. Next to the site we’re trying to keep clear for project number 5.

Honestly why am I like this? 🤣

As unimpressive as this was I’m just happy that Sparta remembered how to even begin collecting himself after not working pretty much at all in the 3 years since we moved here. 😅

I was so excited to be able to use my round pen again for the first time since we moved. I didn’t even care that there was no sand yet. And now I’m reallllllly glad that we didn’t put sand in this year like we were supposed to. Because as it turns out the round pen is moving. Again. Joy. 🫠

It’s for a good reason. It’s going to be in a better spot later and better things are going (roughly) in its place. It will be worth it eventually. But for now I’ll be mourning yet again having to put my personal horses on the back burner to make improvements out here. Every time I think I’m close the goal posts gets up and runs off again. 🥲 someday. Someday soon I’ll be back to playing with my guys. Every completed project brings us closer to being able to do fun things with them. Just gotta stay patient for a lil while longer.

Another day another long overdue update. I can’t believe it but we’ve FINALLY gotten every pasture fenced! 🤩 mostly. Kind of. 😅 we still need to go back and add another line of hot wire to this field (we’ve added caps and a top line since this video was taken), and we still need to add another gate and change a corner in one part.

BUT!!! It’s done. We did it. It took literally 3 years of battling overgrown forests full of dead and collapsed trees, blackberries, poison oak, hornets, yellow jackets, and removing mountains of old t posts and barbed wire. But we did it. We won. 🥲 we can finally move onto other things out here and hopefully retire the poor T post pounder.

Another day another video getting kicked out of my phone’s limited storage. 😂 this time we have Seraphim. If anyone remembers him he’s the c**t that went home last year. So this videos been sitting and taking up space on my phone rather than just being posted and freeing up memory. Because I will film things and then never think about them again until I can’t record anything else and my phone threatens to implode. 😅

Could I just buy some cloud storage? Definitely. But if I don’t bully myself by running out of space due to my own poor choices then these videos would never see the light of day. And then what would the 3 people who still follow this page watch every 6 months when I need to show proof of life?

Annnnnnyway onto Fin’s video! Not much to comment on. This was just a collection of some of the things he had learned in his time here. Unfortunately this was one of his not so great days. Kid had the attention span of a goldfish (he was a hot blooded boy and at the time still a 3 year old and very baby brained). He definitely had days where he would do better than this at the point this video was taken. I wish I had recorded one of his better sessions rather than this mediocre mess. But hey at least he did do the things I asked of him. Mostly. And he did them poorly. But he did do them! 😂 half credit is better than no credit at all.

Behold the absolute monster that the stall fans have created. 🤣 let it be known that Reverie had absolutely zero problems going outside before we installed those damn fans. Now this is what pretty much every afternoon out here looks like. I’ve accidentally created a very large very spoiled indoor cat. Revi has standards now. 💅

Those standards means that he obviously cannot go outside anymore. It is dirty out there. It is hot. It is full of bugs. Simply put it is beneath him. Clearly I am the unreasonable one here, not my 500 pound toddler.

The fact that I force him to go outside a few hours a day, like he is some sort of large common farm animal, is just barbaric. This is clearly abuse and Revi would like to formally request that someone calls animal control on his behalf. PETA. The fire department. The national guard perhaps? Also if anybody could reach out to the ASPCA for him he would really appreciate that. He wants to volunteer to be the next star in their late night abused animal infomercials. He’s been practicing his distressed groaning and pitiful hamster eyes for them.

This isn’t even as bad as he can be. Not even close. Somedays he just lays there groaning like the painted beached whale that he is. There are times he absolutely will not move and nothing can convince him otherwise. No amount of rocking his entire body will budge him. Swinging a rope? Unimpressive. Swatting his lazy butt? Meaningless. Manually uncrossing his legs after he purposefully crosses them so he simply ✨cannot✨ arise from the earth? Cue more exaggerated whale groaning. 🐋 One time he refused to move until I chucked his traffic cone at him. And even then he didn’t believe me until I reached for his jolly ball next.

So for anyone out there thinking about adding a fan to your particularly lazy horses stall. Maybe don’t. Maybe let that thought go. Save the money. Buy them some cookies to spoil them instead. Don’t end up like me. Because someday I’m going to need a forklift to physically lift him and carry him out of his stall.

This could have been a better video. If my phone’s memory hadn’t betrayed me. Again. I’m going to be salty about this forever. 😑 he had a great first session. We established draw, and worked towards first touch. Technically we could have easily had first touch, but his adopter is coming to meet him soon so I’m saving that moment for her.

For now I’m working on establishing the rules of the game with him. And he really is doing great. We even got a few steps towards me, tons of reaching out to contact and he even did super well with distractions. Such as Kali deciding that if I’m not paying attention to her then she’s going to throw a toddler level tantrum. Revi getting cast around his water bucket, because of course he did. And even some of the turkeys flying by overhead.

He took all of that in stride. Y’all will have to take my word on that because the video I was taking of this session died right around the time anything even remotely interesting happened. 🙃 awesome. I love this. Thank you, phone.

Lesson learned, pause sessions to check on videos still being active. Do not trust that things are still recording because they probably aren’t. Over an hour was lost but at least part of the beginning was salvageable. And there was just enough light left to quickly take a short clip of where we were at by the end of the session. So not all was lost. But I’m still so mad. 🫠

Yesterday I worked with the lil bay gelding for the first time. Set my phone to record and spent a little over an hour with him. Finished up and went yo check the video just to see a notification that my phone didn’t have enough space to record. 🫠 I dont understand how this keeps happening. So instead of posting the new boys first session I have to start sorting through old videos that I’ve been putting off posting for months. So I hope y’all are wanting lots of updates on what we’ve been doing out here the last 8 months or so. Because I’ll be spending the next couple of weeks sorting through all these.

For starters check out the new updates we did to the stalls this summer. Now that we’ve added electricity to this barn we were able to give the horses fans! They weren’t too sure about them at first, but boy have they learned to appreciate being cool and mostly bug free all summer.

It did however create a small problem with Revi. 😅 he likes the fans. He likes the fans a little too much, and has picked up the unfortunate habit of playing dead rather than going outside to play. It’s cute, but it also means I spend at least 5-10 minutes a day trying to convince him he is in fact alive and therefore must go outside. He finds this to be utterly tragic.

The little bordo geldings trip home was smooth sailing. But the poor guy did not have a very good time on the bus. 😕 he spent the entire 9 hour ride home frozen in place. He did not move from the spot he stopped in after he ran on the trailer for basically the entire ride. He didn’t touch his hay, and at every rest stop I found him in that same locked legged and staring position. That’s… not ideal. Catatonic ponies are not what we want to see.

So instead of doing my usual first session I do once they’re unloaded I made the call to just move him straight into his room to settle in. He’s also going to be given a few days to relax before we get started. We do not want to induce a stress colic with this guy. Especially with how little water he drank when I checked it the following morning.

Bright side he does seem very quiet and willing to try figuring things out from what little I’ve seen of him. Unsticking his feet is probably going to be a bit slow but I think he should be a level headed boy. Definitely not flighty and I do love that! He even took meeting the chicken army pretty well this morning. Sure he looked a lil flabbergasted by the… amount of screaming birds suddenly in his stall. 🤣 but he definitely took it better than most do!
