We got new chicks in April but one of them turned out to be a rooster. He's a bit of a dick, though. He has the hens trapped in the coop and attacks them if they come out. So they stay inside all day.

Today I took the rooster out and all the hens came out to dirt bathe in the sun.

I've been using the square foot garden method for a number of years but always used some redwood slats to divide the bed into squares. I don't know why I didn't think of this before but I'm trying mason twine this year. It's flexible and takes up less space.

I just got a new nuc of bees in March and they already swarmed. I caught this one and put it in a nuc box for now.

One of the pleasant surprises in this house was the hidden basement. It had been framed over with only a small trap door for access. So over a year ago I slowly started opening it back up and just now finished the first step of one of its intended uses, canned goods storage.
