RBARI is a leading no-kill animal shelter dedicated to providing second chances, safe refuge, medical care, and forever homes to local homeless dogs and cats in NJ. (RBARI), the leading no-kill animal shelter in Northern New Jersey, is dedicated to second chances by providing safe refuge and essential medical and behavioral care, along with new forever homes to New Jersey’s homeless and abused dog

s and cats. Focusing on animals with the greatest need, RBARI is especially committed to those often rejected, including seniors; urgent medical cases; and surrenders. RBARI regularly pulls from local animal control facilities, thus placing an emphasis on “local first", allowing us to impact the rate of euthanasia as well as reduce the homeless population. RBARI also supports the community, assisting in animal welfare emergencies and working with partner organizations to provide low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for communities in need. We also work with our TNR partners to help decrease the overpopulation and stop the cycle of homelessness and abuse too many animals suffer.

Meet Jenny!

Jenny is a very laidback and mellow sweetheart ❤️ She loves to be around people and rubs against our legs to show her affection. Jenny would prefer to be the only cat in the home and wants all the human affection for herself! She also absolutely loves her treats!

It was 5am. The call went out: Send the Police! 🚨

Adorned in protective gear, the police approached the house timidly - unsure what they’d find inside. The homeowner had called frantically. A monster may be lying in wait...

As the door sprung open, a demon emerged: fluffy, 12lb, 8 year old Christopher. Street name: Christo-FURY.

Look at him the wrong way, and he’ll have something to say. Interrupt his nap and you’ll never hear the end of it. While he may look like a perfectly cuddly lapdog, he is ANYTHING BUT.

That 5am call to the police about a 12lb dog terrorizing her? That’s true...and, that’s how Christopher finds himself with us now.

A wannabe police dog, this Maltese/Shih Tzu mix found himself on the outside looking in at the Police Dog Academy. HIs bark found insufficiently fearsome, and his tiny frame unfit for the riggers of police life. Now: all bark, no badge.

Many things offend our little ChristoFURY. On the short list: men, children, strangers, neighbors, delivery people, repairmen, vets, groomers, sharing food, big or energetic dogs.

Christopher definitely has some good qualities, too. He’s quite a charmer with the ladies - often able to hide his devious side.

Christopher gives plenty of warning if you learn his rules and listen to them. He’s a good walker, non-shedding, and smart.

Overall, Christopher is in great health other than a mild heart murmur which doesn’t require medication.

Beyond a patient one, we aren’t sure what home will suit this little devil best. He may accept the presence of another chill dog, does not want kisses goodnight or to be woken up too early in the morning, and can be bribed with chicken and cheese.

If you are still reading and thinking this sounds like a great dog to adopt, please make an appointment with a good therapist(KIDDING), and apply at RBARI.org/dogs so we can broker a meeting with ChristoFURY.

If you think you can “fix” him, don’t bother - those relationships never work out if you aren’t ready to accept each other flaws and all, and he’s done with trying to fit into society’s convention of what a “pet” should be and looking to live life on his terms

‼️‼️We need scratchers‼️‼️

Please consider donating scratchers for our kittens and cats. We are all out and these are so beneficial for our cats to have! Scratchers are essential for claw maintenance, stretching, and stress relief. We often run low since these need to be thrown away once they have gotten too used/dirty. Please consider donating scratchers from our wishlist, the link can be found in our bio or by going to rbari.org/wish-list

Our cats and everyone at RBARI thanks you for thinking of them ❤️

Meet Roz!

Roz is a super sweet domestic medium hair kitten who came in with her siblings, Mike and Sully. They were all feral at first, but have come around since being in a socialization foster. Roz is the most affectionate of her siblings and loves to be held and purr in your arms. She has a scar on her eye which doesn’t affect her health, it just makes her cuter!

🗳️ VOTE FOR ZEUS & HELP RBARI WIN A $2,500 GRANT! 🐾

We need your help! RBARI has been selected as a finalist in Waggle’s DOGust grant competition, and your vote could help us win $2,500 to support dogs like Zeus who need a little extra help finding their way forward.

💙 Zeus is the RBARI dog representing us in this special campaign.

After suffering a serious spinal injury, Zeus lost the ability to walk. By the time he came to RBARI, surgery was no longer an option. He was severely underweight, had significant muscle wasting and will now require rehabilitation, mobility support and a custom wheelchair.

But Zeus is only two years old, and he has so much life ahead of him.

That is exactly what Waggle and Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Love Harder initiative is celebrating — the dogs who may need more time, more care or a little more help, but deserve every chance at a happy life.

🐶 Please vote for Zeus and Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge and help us win a $2,500 Waggle grant!

➡️ VOTE HERE: https://animal.waggle.org/-dogust-26-voting

Voting ends September 10 at 11:59 PM PST, so please vote and share to help us spread the word!

💙 Let’s show Zeus just how many people are rooting for him — and help RBARI continue saying YES to dogs who need us most.

Meet Sully!

This poor little dude came in with his siblings, Mike and Roz, as a feral, sick kitten. Since being placed in a socialization foster, they have all made progress! These kittens may be a bit shut down at first but will thrive in a patient and loving home. They absolutely love to play and are very food motivated, and love to purr in your lap.

Happy Tails for Jack & Milo!

These two seniors found their forever home together, and now get to live out the rest of their lives in the comfort of a loving home.

After a lifetime with his family, seven-year-old Jack was surrendered, alone and confused, to a busy, inner city animal control. Once with RBARI, and having lacked any recent medical care, this affectionate boy got a full medical work up, including surgery to repair his uncomfortable cherry eye.

Milo, a friendly twelve-year-old, was surrendered to RBARI as his owner’s health was failing. A happy-go-lucky little boy who never thought he’d find himself in an animal shelter, Milo never let the glow from his eyes dim.

Now, both these boys will only know love and comfort, forever.

Happy life, Jack & Milo! We are so glad you found your perfect people!

☀️ August’s Happy Endings Because of You ☀️

August was filled with the kind of moments we work toward every day — celebrating animals who have found the families they were waiting for!

Every name on this month’s adoption board represents a second chance made possible by this community. Dogs, cats, small animals, and so many others who just needed safety, care, and someone to believe in them are now beginning the next chapter of their lives with families of their own.

And while we celebrate every happy ending, the need behind them continues. New animals are arriving every day frightened, injured, sick, and needing a safe place to land until their family finds them.

🐾 Monthly donors help make that possible. Please consider becoming a monthly donor at rbari.org/monthly.

Your steady support provides medical care, food, shelter, and compassionate care while allowing us to respond when the next animal needs help.

Thank you for making August a month of second chances, new beginnings, and so many well-deserved forever homes. 💚

💗 Jewel Update: She’s Walking — Now She Needs a Place to Heal 💗

We have some wonderful news to share about Jewel. After being hit by a car and left with multiple pelvic fractures, this sweet girl is now walking! But what she needs most is somewhere safe and loving to continue her recovery.

Jewel is a three-year-old Shih Tzu/terrier mix who was rushed to the emergency hospital with a shattered pelvis, pulmonary contusions, abdominal fluid, bloody urine and difficulty breathing. After a month of intensive care and rest, Jewel has come so far — and we’re hoping her next stop will be a forever home.

She isn’t completely out of the woods yet. Jewel still needs another month of strict crate rest and will continue to receive medical monitoring and follow-up care.

🏡 Jewel is looking for a long-term foster or, even better, a forever home. Please visit rbari.org to apply.

Despite everything she has been through, Jewel is a docile, well-mannered girl who just wants to be close to her people.

Can you give Jewel the safe, loving home she needs for the rest of her recovery — and maybe forever? 💕

RBARI Rescue Warrior Spotlight! ✨

When Arin, Blake & Casey were tasked with a bit of a summer clean-up, they hatched the idea to raise money for RBARI at the same time.

These three amazing kids held a garage sale to sell their gently used items, and let their friends, neighbors and social media followers know that all proceeds were going to RBARI. Of course, they made a fortune - and dropped off a fat check that will help make our shelter animal’s stay as comfortable as possible as they await their forever homes.

Thank you, Arin, Blake & Casey, for this wonderful donation and for being awesome kids!
