Did you know that some everyday foods, plants, medications, and household products can be toxic to our beloved pets? Even small amounts of certain substances can cause serious illness!

🐶 COMMON TOXINS FOR DOGS 🍫 Chocolate & caffeine: Can cause vomiting, restlessness, abnormal heart rhythms, and seizures. 🍇 Grapes & raisins: May cause acute kidney injury, even in small amounts. 🍬 Xylitol: This sugar substitute, found in some sugar-free gum, candies, and other products, can cause dangerously low blood sugar and liver injury. 🧅 Onions, garlic & chives: Can damage red blood cells and lead to anemia. 💊 Human medications: Ibuprofen, naproxen, and other medications can be extremely dangerous to dogs. 🧪 Rodenticides & antifreeze: Can cause life-threatening complications if ingested.

🐱 COMMON TOXINS FOR CATS 🌸 Lilies: True lilies and daylilies can cause severe, potentially fatal kidney failure. Even pollen or vase water can be dangerous! 💊 Human medications: Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is extremely toxic to cats. Never give human medication without veterinary direction. 🐜 Dog flea and tick products: Some contain permethrin, which is highly toxic to cats and can cause tremors and seizures. 🧅 Onions & garlic: Can damage red blood cells and cause anemia. 🌿 Essential oils: Certain oils can be harmful if ingested or absorbed through the skin. 🍫 Chocolate & caffeine: Can cause serious toxicity in cats, too.

⚠️ SIGNS OF POSSIBLE TOXICITY 🚩 Vomiting or diarrhea 🚩 Excessive drooling 🚩 Weakness or lethargy 🚩 Tremors or seizures 🚩 Difficulty breathing 🚩 Changes in behavior or coordination

❤️ HOW TO KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE 🐾 Store medications, chemicals, and toxic foods securely. 🐾 Check plants before bringing them into your home. 🐾 Never give human medications without veterinary guidance. 🐾 Keep pet-specific flea and tick products separate from those intended for other animals.

🚨 THINK YOUR PET HAS BEEN EXPOSED? Contact our veterinarian or an animal poison control service immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to appear, and never induce vomiting or give home remedies unless instructed by a veterinary professional.

🐾 Hurricane Prep Reminder for Pet Parents 🐾
Even when a storm isn't headed directly for our area, seeing active hurricanes in the forecast is a great reminder to check on our pets' emergency kits. Disasters don't wait for us to be ready, but taking 10 minutes today can save crucial time later!
Here is a quick Pet Emergency Checklist to review:
Food & Water: At least a 3–7 day supply of their regular food, fresh water, and a collapsible bowl. Don't forget a manual can opener if needed!
Medications: Pack a 2-week supply of any meds, in a waterproof bag.
Microchip & ID: Double-check that your pet's microchip contact details and collar tags are up-to-date with your current phone number.
Comfort & Safety: A sturdy carrier or harness/leash, a favorite blanket or toy to reduce anxiety, and extra waste bags or litter supplies.
Pet-Friendly Backup Plan: Identify out-of-town friends, family, or pet-friendly hotels where you could stay if an evacuation is ever ordered.
