🇺🇸🐾 Labor Day Pet Safety: Keep the Fun Safe! 🐾🇺🇸

Labor Day weekend means cookouts, pool parties, beach days, and plenty of time with family and friends—but some of our favorite holiday activities can pose hidden dangers for our pets.
Before the festivities begin, keep these common hazards in mind:
🍔 BBQ Foods: Fatty foods, bones, corn cobs, onions, garlic, and foods containing xylitol can be dangerous for pets. When in doubt, keep people food off their menu!
🔥 Grills & Fire Pits: Curious noses and wagging tails can easily get too close. Keep pets safely away from hot grills, flames, and leftover coals.
🍺 Alcohol: Even small amounts can be dangerous for dogs and cats. Keep alcoholic drinks where curious paws can't reach them.
🏊 Pool & Water Safety: Not every pet is a natural swimmer. Supervise pets around pools and other bodies of water and make sure they have a safe way out.
🌡️ Heat: Labor Day may signal the end of summer, but South Florida temperatures can still be dangerously hot. Provide plenty of fresh water, shade, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
🎆 Noise & Crowds: Parties, fireworks, and unfamiliar guests can cause anxiety. Make sure your pet has a quiet, secure place to retreat—and check that gates, doors, and fences are secure.
🦟 Don't Forget Prevention: Keep your pets protected from heartworms, fleas, and ticks year-round!
🇺🇸 Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy the long weekend with your four-legged family members! 🐶🐱❤️

💗🐶 👅 Poppy came in for her visit and made sure her technician nurse, Danielle, knew exactly how much she appreciated her! 🥰💋
Apparently, a few kisses were simply not enough… Poppy had LOTS of love to give! 😘🐾
Danielle might have a little extra puppy love on her heart today. 💕

✨️🐾 Did you know? 🐾✨️

Cats spend about 70% of their lives sleeping—which means a nine-year-old cat has only been awake for about three years! 💤🐈
When they aren't napping, they spend roughly half of their awake hours grooming themselves to regulate body temperature, stimulate circulation, and keep clean.
Did you learn something new today? I did! 💡

Mia came in for her visit with a little extra help from Momma! 📝🐾💗
Mom sent Mia in with a note full of questions—what a GREAT idea! Sometimes it’s easy to think of questions after you’ve left the appointment, so writing them down ahead of time helps make sure nothing gets forgotten.
Mia did her part by being absolutely adorable, and our team made sure Momma’s questions were answered so Mia could head home happy, healthy, and with everyone feeling a little more confident. 🥰🐶
We love when our pet parents come prepared! 💕

Myth vs. Fact: Is a Dog’s Mouth Cleaner Than a Human’s? 🐶💬
MYTH: A dog’s mouth is cleaner than a human mouth.
FACT: False! Both human and canine mouths are filled with hundreds of types of bacteria—they just carry different species!
While dog saliva contains specific proteins that help heal their own surface wounds, their mouths host plenty of oral bacteria that can cause plaque build-up, tartar, and periodontal disease if left unchecked.
Why it matters for your pet:
Dental disease affects over 80% of dogs by age 3.
Bacterial accumulation under the gumline can lead to tooth loss and eventually impact kidney, liver, and heart health.
Bad breath isn't just "dog breath"—it’s often an early warning sign of dental disease.
How to keep those doggy kisses fresh:
Daily brushing: Pet-safe toothpaste (never human toothpaste!) is the gold standard.
Dental chews & wipes: Look for VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Council) approved treats.
Regular wellness exams: Have your vet check their teeth and gums at least once a year to see if a professional dental cleaning is needed.

🐾🍂 A new month means a fresh start—and a great time to make sure your pets are protected! ❤️
As we welcome September, don’t forget to give your dogs and cats their monthly heartworm prevention. 🦟 Heartworms are spread by mosquitoes, and here in South Florida, our pets can be exposed year-round.
One little reminder each month can make a big difference in keeping your furry family members happy, healthy, and protected! 🐶🐱💕
New month. New beginnings. Same important reminder: Don’t forget the heartworm prevention!
