Small but mighty? 🐕

Two professional dog trainers share an honest conversation with opposing views on “aggressive” tendencies in small dogs like Chihuahuas.

What often looks like aggression is usually just a bigger fight-or-flight response. Small dogs tend to be more animated and vocal because they live in a big-dog world. It’s their way of communicating -not a bad dog. You’ll even see them or other small sized dogs as shown try to place their head above bigger dogs to size them up, and larger dogs naturally correct them to show hierarchy. That’s normal dog language, and that’s totally okay!

A gentle note: If any dog shows a strong tendency to snap or lunge, it’s completely okay to decide they’re not the right fit for you. Some pups need extra time, patience, and experience - and it’s better for everyone to go to a home that feels ready for that journey and for someone that has the time, and willingness to provide extra attentiveness and gentle guidance needed. 😊

Pro tip:
Solid commands like sit or loose-leash walking don’t always need treats - heartfelt praise and clear leadership work wonderfully too!

Big dogs, big energy -
handled the right way. 🐕

Leash work isn’t about control, it’s about clarity.

When introducing your dog to larger dogs, think slow, structured exposure-busy environments like the mall are perfect for practicing neutrality.

If they bark or lunge, a light leash correction reminds them who’s leading.

Follow it up with reward-based timing so they
learn: calm behavior = good things.

Balance the correction, reward the mindset, and over time you’ll trade reactions for relaxed interactions.

Because confidence isn’t forced-it’s built.

6️⃣ years old & progressing with purpose! 🐕

Introducing a new environment-like a farm-requires structure, patience, and clear communication. ✨

With proper leash work and gradual exposure, we integrate new stimuli step by step, using what I call “smush” (reward-based reinforcement) to ease tension and build confident, neutral behavior around animals like goats, cows, and chickens! 🐓

It’s never too late to refine behavior and create reliability through training! 🐄

Desensitizing to loud noises isn’t about forcing it-it’s about introducing it. 🔊🐕

We bring the sound in slowly, keep it controlled, and pair every moment with rewards so your pup starts thinking, “loud noise = good things happen.”

Step by step, treat by treat, we turn fear into focus and reactions into confidence.

No chaos, just calm conditioning.

Want your dog to stay cool no matter the noise?

Hit the link in our bio and check out our courses we’ll show you exactly how to build that unshakable mindset. 🐾
