Happy Foster Friday! Today, the spotlight is on Gabe (A.K.A. Gabey Baby), our sweet big-headed hippo! Gabe came in as an Oak Park stray, and since then, he’s done an amazing job during multiple foster care visits.
“He is so happy, lovable, sweet, goofy, playful, and curious,” says his foster mom. “His beautiful light hazel eyes, big head, and smile just pull you in.”
Gabe, who is about three years old, loves the opportunity to meet new people. When a new friend comes to see him, he makes his feelings known by breaking out his signature ear-to-ear grin and presenting one of his favorite toys—it’s now your job to play tug with him. He has also played well with dogs, and would be open to meeting the right canine companion who can match his play style!
Earlier this year, Gabe had surgery to repair ligaments in his knee. Thanks to a team effort from fosters who transported him to the hospital and supported him during recovery, he's back to his fully goofy self! And through the whole process, he was the most excellent boy.
“I cared for him after surgery, and he has done amazing," says his foster mom. "His movement is back to regular routines, and the vet has said his knee is in good shape!”
Gabe’s experience in foster care, from recovering after major surgery to simply taking a break from the shelter, has shown what a great companion he’ll make for his forever family, no matter what life throws his way. Gabe is currently back with us at the shelter, so we hope you’ll come meet him! Walk in any time during adoption hours, Wednesday through Sunday!
