Vet Tech Week is a special time to show extra appreciation for the incredible work our veterinary technicians and assistants do every day! We appreciate each and every one of our team members and strive to show that appreciation year-round.

Here are some other tasks our technicians and assistants perform.

Pictured here, Tom is drawing blood from the back leg while Kylie holds Becker. The vein can often be gently filled by allowing the dog to keep its foot resting on a surface, avoiding direct pinching. This technique works especially well with giant-breed dogs, helping reduce stress and minimizing the risk of being bitten or pushed away by reactive, anxious, or head-shy dogs. Look at how big Becker is!

Technicians also administer subcutaneous (SQ) fluids to help treat dehydration, perform nail trims, take X-rays, and run laboratory tests. These important tasks help our team provide the highest quality care for each of our patients!

Pictured here, Isabelle is performing a dental cleaning, Jakie is assisting with a suture removal, and Trina is counting out your dog’s Apoquel refill. Our team works hard every day to provide the best care for your pets!

Lynn and Dr. Brad are preparing an orthopedic surgery patient before moving him to the surgical suite! 🩺🐾

This process is called a “rough prep” and involves several important steps to get the patient ready for surgery. The team trims the hair around the surgical site, starts IV fluids, places warming bags to help maintain body temperature, trims the nails, and thoroughly cleans the entire leg.

Throughout the process, Kara will closely monitor the anesthesia machine, heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure to help keep the patient safe and stable.

Once the patient is moved to the surgical suite, the team performs a final sterile prep while Dr. Brad and Kara scrub in for surgery. (Kara is not pictured!)

It takes an amazing team working together to ensure our patients receive the best care possible! ❤️
