Amori was making it hard to work today 🫣

Amori belongs to one of our amazing RVTs and was hanging out at the clinic today, very comfortably 🤣

As you can see, we now have glass front kennels! No bars or metal cages for reduced anxiety for patients and their families! 🙌 they are temp controlled, lighted, and convertible to oxygen kennels!

We are grateful to be able to offer you and your fur kids additional peace of mind during your visit with us 😊♥️

Patient of the week - Punkie!

Punkie had a jaw fracture just 2 weeks ago, if you can believe it! She had a procedure called a hemimandibulectomy performed. That means one side of her lower jaw was removed. As you can see, it hasn’t slowed her down one bit!

Her mom reports she is years younger after her procedure and doing amazing. Dental disease is often under diagnosed, hidden pain. We are always so happy to see our patients after surgery living their best lives! 🥰

I think Paul Wall might have stopped by the clinic this week…

We prepared 7 crowns since MONDAY, and placed a few more! 😱

Dogs break teeth or wear down for numerous reasons. Some you may not even think of, like a normal tennis ball. The felt on these acts like an abrasive surface on teeth and wears them down overtime. Other things like antlers and nylabones break teeth and cause irreversible damage without treatment, meaning your pet may need this procedure in the future with use of these items.

Meet our patient of the week, Riley!

Riley is the sweetest boy with the biggest Husky voice. His demands included attention, head scratches, and food - which we couldn’t oblige to the last one unfortunately.

As part of his regular care, he undergoes an annual Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment which includes dental imaging with our CBCT unit, his typical clean and polish, and more.

Here he’s seen with Dr. Victoria in recovery from his procedure.

Animal Dentistry Referral Services is a locally owned veterinary dentistry clinic led by a Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist and Oral Surgeon specializing in advanced dental care for dogs, cats, and exotic and pocket pets. We are located in Norwalk, within Family Pet Veterinary Center Norwalk.

Meet Dr. Jennifer Mathis, a talented veterinarian with a passion for animal dentistry. Born in Canada, but raised in a small town in Iowa, Dr. Mathis comes from a family of successful veterinarians, including her father, grandfather, and great-uncle. She graduated high school as Valedictorian and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry in 1997.

In 2001, she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University. Dr. Mathis' focus is on dentistry. In August 2024, Dr. Mathis earned her diplomate from the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC). She's also a Certified Veterinary Medical Acupuncturist and a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner with the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.

With research showing that a staggering 87% of dogs have jaw bone loss by age three due to periodontal disease, and 69-100% of cats have tooth resorption by age 10, Dr. Mathis knows that animal dentistry is more important than ever. She offers Advanced Dentistry Referral Services at the Norwalk location to help pets live pain-free lives. Dr. Mathis' goal is to make people's lives better through their pets, and she's dedicated to getting to the root of the issue to ensure happier, healthier animals.
