PSA for all my equine vet friends. As most of you know there is a nationwide shortage for the reagent used to run ACTH samples. Cornell is not going to be able to run ACTH samples until the reagent is off backorder which is estimated to be early October. And if you are like me and like to run ACTH samples during the fall seasonal rise to help differentiate the cases in the 'grey zone' please consider sending your samples to the Penn Vet New Bolton Center Van Eps Laminitis and Endocrinology Lab as they are going to be running a different ACTH assay so we can still get ACTH results this summer and fall. I have been using this lab for all my endocrinology testing since they opened and love this lab. The lab is so easy to work with and have a very fast turn around time (less than 24 hours) and when needed excellent veterinarian consultation for difficult cases. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or need help getting set up with the Van Eps Lab.

Just a reminder my talk is today at the New England Morgan Horse Show in Northampton MA in the main tent at the conclusion of the afternoon session. I’m very looking forward to seeing everyone and sharing information on endocrine disease in Morgan horses.

Thank you Dr. Marmion with Proequine Sports Medicine for coming out and doing dynamic scopes on my clients' horses. The dynamic scope is a great way to see what is really going on in the upper airway when the horse is ridden. Here is a video of Gem being ridden with the dynamic scope on and the video of her upper airway while the mare walked, trotted and cantered.
