Sweet little Punkin got herself into some trouble by consuming a whole pack of sugar-free gum, causing Xylitol toxicity with a side of hypoglycemia and increased Liver values. With the help of Pet Poison Control’s toxicologists, our doctors developed a plan to help Punkin feel better.

Punkin stayed hospitalized with us for 4 days, receiving around-the-clock care from our amazing team of doctors and technicians. After her 4-day stay, Punkin was discharged, and her parents told us that she is doing great at home! 🩵

Accidents happen, and pets sometimes eat things that could potentially be toxic to them. We highly encourage all pet parents to have Pet Poison Control’s phone number saved for those just-in-case moments. ☎️ (888) 426-4435.

Happy Father’s Day to the pet dads who:

🐾 Say “we’re just going for a quick walk.”
🐾 Have 7,000 photos of their pet on their phone
🐾 Swear they didn’t want a pet in the first place
🐾 Somehow end up sharing half their side of the bed

We see you and so do your very grateful 4-legged companions. 💙

Mister Clyde presented through our ER department after mom found him on the porch with a severe hind leg injury. It was suspected that a car potentially hit poor Clyde. Due to the severity of his injury, it was determined that his hind leg needed to be amputated.

From the moment Clyde walked through our doors, he was non-stop purring and wanting attention. He fell asleep purring and making biscuits going into surgery, and woke from surgery doing something! Clyde’s surgery went wonderfully, and he is now on the road to recovery! 😍

Today is National Blood Donor Day!

Meet Finn, a 13-year-old sweetheart who came to our emergency department with lethargy and pale gums. After a complete exam and diagnostics, a large abdominal mass was discovered, which had begun to bleed. Dr. Avellini discussed options with Finn’s family; they elected to have surgery on Finn to have the mass removed. Finn also required a blood transfusion due to blood loss from the abdominal mass. Finn’s surgery went great, and he has fully recovered! 🎉

Just like in humans, following specific criteria, cats and dogs can become blood donors and help save lives just like Finn! Interested in finding out if your pet is a candidate to become a blood donor? Give us a call at ☎️ 609-277-3700 to find out more information!

Cheeto presented to our emergency department for a urinary obstruction. At home, he was straining, vocalizing, lethargic, and had begun vomiting. Cheeto also has a history of urinary obstruction in the past.

Since Cheeto was now a repeat offender, even with eating a prescription urinary diet and being on medication. It was determined that not only did he need to be unblocked, but it was recommended that Cheeto have a perineal urethrostomy (or PU) procedure done. With a PU surgery, the narrowest part of the urethra is removed to create a wider, permanent opening. This allows Cheeto to pass urine and urinary crystals without becoming blocked again.

Cheeto has been doing fantastically at home since his PU surgery with Dr. Goodwin, and has a wonderful mom taking care of him who just so happens to be one of our technicians!

Meet Bodie, a 1-year-old English bulldog with the most expressive eyes 💙! Bodie presented through our emergency department after vomiting up a piece of fabric and was unable to hold down food or water. With a history of eating things he should not, an exam, and some radiographs, it was determined that Bodie would need surgery to remove the foreign object. His surgery went fantastically, and he is recovering wonderfully! We are so happy you are feeling better Bodie! 🐾

National Microchipping Month is a great reminder to make sure your pet’s microchip information is up to date. 🐾

Even the most careful pet parents can experience the unexpected, and a registered microchip can help reunite lost pets with their families faster. If your pet already has a microchip, take a moment to confirm that your contact information is up to date. If they are not microchipped yet, talk with your veterinarian about this simple and permanent form of identification.

A microchip can make all the difference when every moment counts. ❤️
