We are excited to share a perfect match and wonderful adoption! This is Casper! He came to us as a rescue from another rescuer who had a difficult time. His original owner had a hard time keeping up with his care and was brought into us to improve is situation. He is a middle aged to older Barefaced Cockatoo who is 35 years old and tends to live about 50 years. Here at the rescue he gets fresh fruit and veggies. High quality bird pellet mix and seeds or nuts as a treat. He also gets natural sunshine and lots of out time, play time and tons of interaction. Cockatoos are known as Velcro birds who form a very strong bond with people. When left alone, they will become very loud, destructive or self mutilating. Cockatoos are one the most rehomed birds and are not recommended for beginner bird owners.

These are a few photos of Casper with his new owner. He has shown so much happiness with this individual and it was obvious from the first day they met, that they were a perfect match. Casper picked is owner, and its a beautiful bond.

We're feeling super nostalgic about rescue. We miss doing it so much. Rescue building is the next project and we are on our way back to doing what we love. We want to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who has been patient while we're working past all the struggles we have had to endure and overcome. This process has not been easy but knowing we are supported has kept us going and we are beyond ready to open our home and heart to those lives that need us.

In the meantime: Here is a success story from our history book! This is Tyrion, a tiny failure to thrive kitten and only survivor of his litter. He was only 1lb at 12 weeks... about 1/3 to 1/4 the size he should have been. At 8 weeks he was the size of a hamster for reference. He has grown up to be a loving healthy normal sized cat. He loves all the other cats and here you can see him snuggling with the couch because Sherlock left for food. He is around 2.5 years old now!

It's time to reintroduce some of our permanent rescues!

This beautiful girl is Abby! She is a lesser sulfur crested cockatoo and everyone at AIE loves her. She spends her days flying from one person to another to cuddle and she's most likely to choose you if you're holding a bag of popcorn. 😉 She came to us with major hormone issues causing overly sexual behavior that was causing her body significant damage. She has a hormone implant to help her with that and has been absolutely phenomenal here. Our family wouldn't be complete without this sweet girl!

Calling all fosters/adopters!

This sweet baby is a year and a half young and looking for a new place to call home. Her current foster is unable to keep her but is willing to cover her rehoming fee if someone is willing to love this baby for the rest of her life!

If you think you could be her forever, please message us!

Urgent need for waste food!

I can use any and all raw unseasoned meat and bones. I am interested in unusable scraps to feed my rescue animals. It might be organs such as lung, tripe, trachea, kidneys, spleen, heart, heads, rips, meat scraps, still borns, poultry heads necks frames organs. I can use freezer burnt meat even if it is from before I was born, etc. Or vegetables such as slightly past, poor looking, carrot tops and other tops , etc. Anyone who is looking to sell meat or veggies and produces waste, I am in a high level of need atm for it. We take in animals in the thousands right now and I desperately need help providing them with ideal food. While you are supporting our incredible community, please consider also helping animals with your waste! I am a licensed State of Maine Animal Rescue. I have included below some animals from this year we have taken in.
PS I also desperately need funds to provide medical care for the animals I take it, or supplies. I am providing wishlists from a couple of websites as well. We cannot currently adopt out so we are working with the SPCA in Trenton to get as many to new homes as possible. Unfortunately the variety of species we take in makes it hard. We do everything from lizards, snakes, tortoises, cats, dogs, exotic birds like parrots and macaws (that can live for over 100 years! ) as well as anything that comes through the door. All require ideal care and food and hours of attention to get and keep them healthy.

I am at 15 Kimball Rd, next door neighbors with the tiny medical center. I have vocal sweetheart corgis that wouldn't hurt a fly but love strangers.

"I know it isn't much of a photo but we had a HUGE day yesterday, Toby and I. She spent time with her door open and out of the cage, and at one point she got onto the floor and was nervous but stepped up onto me. She opened up a LOT after I "saved" her. I spent about half an hour just giving her face and head rubs through the cage. She would show me what spots itched and I would scratch them for her. She also enjoyed watching Mary Poppins and began chit chatting with me. At one point a cat snuck past me and she got excited again (she loves cats) and began purring at the cat. For me this is what it is all about. Small moments of victory that turn into trust, understanding and love. There is really absolutely nothing like the trust of an animal that has been scared, nervous, displaced, or shy. Today I am hoping to make more progress and spend more time bonding with this incredible bird. Often when people imagine rescue, they think about playing with lots of cute fluffy animals, when the reality is rescuers often become more like confidants and therapists after many many hours of work and small victories. I spend quite a while composing myself, purging myself of all doubt, fear, stress, external worries before I step into a room with a rescue so the two of us have a clean slate of possitive energy to work with. It is an honor to interact with Toby, and I look forward to many more hours of slow steady progress." -Ann

We have had some incredible animals come through here recently. They often come from bad situations and need medical care and tons of love to turn them around! These animals learn what it is to be loved, then give it back 10 times over. I am always amazed by the resilience and spirit of these guys. I am honored to be a part of it! Please note- many of these animals are already adopted, some are not.
