In 2021, we loaded supplies into a rental minivan and headed to Waverly, Tennessee.
We had no idea that trip would become the beginning of something much bigger.
Since then, the Disaster Task Force has deployed 43 times to 30 states, and traveled more than 78,000 miles helping individuals, families, pets, emergency responders, and communities impacted by disasters.
Nearly every one of those miles has been traveled in a rental vehicle.
Those vehicles helped us get the job done. They helped us show up.
But over the years - and particularly on our last deployment - we've learned that disaster response has unique challenges, and we've reached a point where a dedicated response unit can help us do more, carry more, stay longer, and operate more effectively.
Today, we're excited to officially introduce Project: DTF-01.
DTF-01 is a mission-enhancing response unit being designed specifically around the way the Disaster Task Force operates. It will help transport critical resources, improve readiness, support deployment operations, and provide capabilities that simply aren't possible with a standard rental vehicle.
This isn't just about a van.
It's about building a tool that will help us serve people and communities for years to come more economically, more efficiently and more expeditiously.
Project DTF-01 is now officially underway.
