Treats can be a crutch. Praise builds connection.

What happens when you don’t have treats in your pocket? Will your dog still listen?

Mine will.

Connection builds reliability. The industry seems to have become very treat dependent, and my goal is to change that.

Falcon was there to show, but every minute outside the ring was still training. New dogs, noise, crowds, movement and distractions. That’s where confidence gets built.

For those who show their dogs, I offer show specific success building within my structured residency programs. Because your show dog is still a dog 99% of the time. The confidence, neutrality and reliability outside the ring matter just as much as what happens inside it.

The ring is only part of the picture.

That’s the Standard.

After Dutton’s last little fetch performance, you all had plenty to say! 🔉🙌

One comment came up over and over though: stop trying to make Dutton play fetch my way and just play it his way.

So I listened gang!

I chased him. I played by his rules. And honestly... the struggle is still real!

I’ve loved seeing so many Aussie owners jump into the comments and share their own stories. The response has been incredible, and it’s been really cool watching everyone connect over just how relatable this apparently is. Thank you all for the support, and welcome to the Aussie Fetch Club 😂

Now share your Aussie fur baby’s fetch stories in the comments below. I want to hear them 🙌🙏🧶

Not all Australian Shepherds are built the same.
Working lines and show lines can be very different animals.

Let’s just say Dutton comes from a long lineage of show dogs 😂

He’ll chase the toy. He’ll find the toy. Bringing it back? Apparently that trait got lost somewhere in the bloodline.

Every dog has a different skill set. Our job is to maximize the dog in front of us.

That’s the Standard.

And no, he never did bring that toy to me! 😂

There’s no one-size-fits-all in dog training, and Tasha is the perfect example. Afghan Hounds have a uniquely independent, almost cat-like temperament, and she was never going to fit into a cookie-cutter approach. She needed training built around who she is. Proud to say the approach I designed specifically for Tasha worked beautifully, and her program was a huge success.

That's the Standard.

Vintage Grill has officially become our go to spot when we’re in the Worcester area. Super dog friendly, great staff, and they even have a dog menu, which obviously meant chicken and rice for the lady.

Beyond the fun of it, places like this are such a good opportunity to build confidence around people, noise, movement, food, and all the distractions that come with a busy environment. Real world training should happen in the real world.

She crushed it. And yes, she loved the chicken and rice.

That's the Standard.

Nothing beats Awful Awful Mondays. A Rhode Island staple. Tasha went with vanilla, and my go to is always coffee. 🐾🍦

During our training program, one of my main focuses with Tasha was building her confidence in new environments, especially busy, noisy settings with unfamiliar people, sounds, and distractions. Learning how to take everything in, stay neutral, and feel comfortable wherever we went.

She absolutely crushed it, so an Awful Awful to celebrate was definitely earned.

Exposure comes in many forms... even ice cream dates.

That’s the Standard.

Reactivity doesn’t always come from aggression. Sometimes it comes from insecurity, frustration, or simply a lack of direction and that is what we have here.

Violet is learning that she doesn’t need to react to everything around her. Through structure, clear communication, and controlled exposure, I’m helping her slow down, build confidence, and make better choices.

By isolating Violet’s situational triggers, I will work back to a calm baseline, then gradually reintroduce those situations and encourage neutrality instead of reaction.

She doesn’t need punishment. She needs guidance, purpose, and productive outlets for the instincts she was bred with.

That’s what I’m going to give her.

That’s the Standard.
